I think it's a fake - they just made a cabrio, aaand an electric car so why stop now? I think it's a gold mine for them.

No way, not at the moment, why would they stop a car that sells like free beer? Not in the next 2 years imho, until they will have another super car replacing it. The SLR was replaced by the SLS and currently there is not replacement out for the SLS. Don't think so!

Yeah. I thought it was going to be like only a year or two. I can see it staying for a while now, especially since they came out with the cabrio and electric.

SLS will be discontinued in favor for a smaller model with 300 - 500 hp searching for the competition with the likes of the 911 and so on...

 

I do know for sure that Mercedes does have a project right now to counter the Porsche 911 and BMW has one too. Both companies claimed a few years back, I believe in 2008 that it's not right that a 911 has no direct class competition from its fellow germans.

 

It's only a matter of time, as nice of a car that it is, I didn't think it was gonna be in production for as long as it did.

 

The SLS's problem is that it is too cheap to compete with Ferraris and Lambos regarding the "pricetag image" and it isn't daily driver enough to compete with a Porsche 911.

Thats what MB is trying to solve in the near future...

 

^^this. The SLS is in no mans land at the moment. From what I've read they will build an SLA to directly compete with the 911. Would be nice though if they made a true replacement for the SLR, we need more bad ass cars before the politicians ban everything that has a gas pedal.

Well...in terms of track performance - not really.
In terms of fit's show effect and running in a straight line - maybe!

Since this thread was bumped ill put my opinion in....

I'd own one if they weren't designed for midgets. Fun car to drive, looks amazing in white or red w red guts, sounds great, decent economy, doesnt scrape as bad as anything italian, better sound system than anything italian. Only problem is the seats don't go far enough back for my legs and my knees are in the wheel.

Love the car, dont fit.


BTW, it was never designed to compete with anything italian guys, it is shooting at the R8 and CGT speed buyers for the weekend toy. I've always said they would sell better if they make it an SLS65 with the twin turbo 12. Nobody wants the beast 6.2 that is buying the car except us.
