for barcelona, see the Gaudi stuff as has been mentioned. i like just wandering around the old city - it's a strange amalgamation of old architecture/city planning and new boutiques.

if you think you like ham, this stuff is the best in the world (i'm not kidding):

if you like seafood, this restaurant serves very very fresh seafood - it's also very very expensive (anywhere from 100-400 euros/person, depending on what you order) but worth it if you value freshness:

The above suggestions are spot on, Tsubasa650!

Hotel Rey Juan Carlos is nice too, but I would suggest staying by the Port Olympico, at Hotel Arts. I seem to recall it is attached to a casino if that is interesting to you...

Also, you can get a pretty easy to decifer map from the concierge at your hotel so finding your way around the popular sites is not very hard at all.... Just don't go on a stringent diet as Potatas Bravas and Sangria are amazing!!

    A couple pix...

How much Spanish should I know before I go to Barcelona?
I took 3 years of spanish in high school. I heard no one speaks English there.

La Sagrada Familia and Las Ramblas are a must!

be careful, they don't speak Spanish in Barcelona, it Catalonian which is similar but different enough that it could mess you up, some words are the same/similar but others are totally different.

I LOVED Barcelona when I went, my g/f and I are scheming for a trip to Barcelona sometime in the near future....it's a place I won't soon forget, I'll try to find some pics, I know my hd crashed and I lost half of my pics but I still think I have some....I'll update later

Ok here are some good ones I found, like I said most are lost ;-( ....guess I have to go back ;-)

No one here has mentioned this but I think it's just a precaution. Be very careful when traveling with money in Barcelona as there's a large population of immigrants from poorer countries who've come to Barcelona for work what does that mean to you ? It means more people will try to pick pocket/rob you especially tourist trust me they know when you are a tourist. I know from personal experience as I was involved in an altercation with an African immigrant who tried to rob me at the ATM. Imagine being in a police station where no one understands you.

yea it just seems like you have to be careful anywhere you go in Europe. I have been to Italy and there was the same issue. I'm not really worried in Kensington.
People park their astons and ferraris outside in the snow.
My highschool Spanish teacher was catalan and they have a unique accent almost like they have a lisp.
I guess I have to brush up on my Spanish....

I'm definitely going to try and catch a champions league match.

We are going to be staying in Sitges, which is like 20 min off of Barcelona by the coast.
