Last week’s uber sedan showdown resulted in a draw between the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and Bentley Flying Spur, but you our readers let us know that most of you would rather put the Bentley in your garage. This week we’re going to speed things up with a pair of V12 Italians that are faster versions of some already very fast cars.

This is a rivalry that goes back to when a car builder named Enzo Ferrari told a tractor builder named Ferruccio Lamborghini that he had no business building cars. You can probably surmise what’s happened since then. The F12tdf is Ferrari’s very fast and very modern interpretation of the grand-touring cars that the Prancing Horse has done so well for so many years, while the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce (to call it by its full name) is one of the fastest cars ever to come out of Sant’Agata.

LOOKS: One look at the F12tdf and you know right away that this car isn’t mucking around. It’s a riot of vents and active aero bits on a canvas of sinewy contours - brutal and beautiful in equal measure.

LOOKS: The angular surfaces of the Lambo provide a striking contrast to the Ferrari, but like the Ferrari, the aerodynamic enhancements make its intentions clear. It also boasts the low, sleek profile of a mid-engine Lamborghini.

LOOKS: Stylistically, each car is beautiful but ultimately this is apples and oranges. This round is a draw.

ENGINE: Like any worthy front-engine Ferrari, the F12tdf is powered by a V12, in this case, a 6.3-liter producing 770 hp at 8500 rpm and 520 lb-ft of torque at 6750 rpm. It’s one of the most powerful V12s Ferrari has ever built.

ENGINE: The Lambo gets a 6.5-liter V12 producing 740 hp at 8,400 rpm and 507 lb-ft of torque at 5,500.

ENGINE: Neither engine is lacking in power, but the Ferrari’s 6.3-liter’s slight advantage gets it the win.

PERFORMANCE: Ferrari claims the F12tdf will do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, and will lap its Fiorano test track in 1:21. That’s two seconds faster than the standard F12 and nearly as fast as the LaFerrari.

PERFORMANCE: With its all-wheel-drive, the Aventador SV sprints to 60 mph in 2.8 sec. It’s also one of the few production cars to break the eight-minute barrier around the Nürburgring.

PERFORMANCE: This is a tight one too, but the Aventador’s slight acceleration advantage and extraordinary ‘Ring time win it another point.

RARITY: With only 799 examples slated to be built, the F12tdf is sure to be a rare sight on the road and a collector car in a few decades.

RARITY: But the Aventador SV will be even rarer with only 600 examples leaving the factory.

RARITY: Simple math dictates that 600 is less than 799. Point, Lambo.

In another close one, the Lamborghini takes home the goods. Let us know on our Facebook page or in the comments below, which you would take home?
