Thats how I feel, but the fact that its a 1 owner with enough miles makes me feel a bit better.

Will they do a PPI for free?

yeah, but still. electrical problems are a nightmare to fix, and 99% of the time they will never be fully fixed...

I have never seen a place that does free PPI, but sometimes the seller will pay for one

How many times does it say the door panel was replaced? 3 times or more. That in itself seems weird to me. Why would that need to be replaced so many times?

To be honest I am surprised MB didn't lemon law this vehicle. I had a 2003 ML55 and after owning the car for 6 months and having 2 computer replaced along with a headlight, front bumper, driver seat, window motor, etc.... I took it in for another service and they called me wanting to buy the car back. I would walk away from this and not look back.

Looks like it had a bulb in the cluster replaced (common,) then a window regulator replaced (VERY common, I just replaced one on a 2010 G55 with 900 miles...) I don't see anything about a new dash, nor do I know of any reason to do that.

Second one sounds good, not much history of electrical gremlins. The electrical system in a 463 is basically swapped from a C class, and a lot of it isn't up to the rigors of bouncing around in a G class.

EDIT: Upon more thorough inspection, it has had a door control module replaced, and the low range selector motor was replaced at 20k. It has also had 2 window regulators replaced in 2 years. Also had the battery replaced under warranty at 42k and 43k miles. It hasn't been to the dealership much recently, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, only 3 times since February of 2009.

Whats the general consensus with buying a car that was once stolen?
It appears to be a good one, had to get a new Dash put in I am guessing, which is what messed with the mileage.

The mileage problem is through Carfax or DMV, Mercedes never indicates a fault. If the cluster is replaced the mileage stays the same. I dont see any indication of a dash replacement...

The mileage climbs steadily, except for 02-2003 to 04-2004, almost 20k miles were driven.

This is all the customer pay data for the vehicle, mileage is the 4th column.

EDIT:Actually, there are some differences in the MB reported mileage as well, 51k in January 2010, but 46k in August of 2010? Where Carfax shows the mileage dropping back down the the 20k's in 2004, MB shows it staying in the 40k's and rising. Meaning it has only had 5k put ion it since April of 2004? doesn't make much sense.

According to Carfax the mileage went from 23k in 2003, then 42k in 2004, then back down to 26k. Mercedes service records never show the mileage going back down, it goes up to 42k in 2004 and climbs from there. Like I said, 5k miles in 6 years is odd, I'm inclined to go with the Carfax reported mileages, and dismiss that one 42k as a clerical fault.

Overall they're solid cars, they have their own problems though. Add to that that no one wants to work on them, therefore labor times are often bumped up a bit compared to a normal benz. If you haven't driven one at night I'd give it a try. The flat glass all the way around makes lights do interesting things.

Be aware that you're paying S Class prices for a vehicle with the refinement of a C Class, many people expect the G wagon the be like every other 100k Benz.... They aren't. You have to slam the doors, they ride like a truck and the 113 motor doesn't have nearly the oomph as it does in say an E500.

Given all that, I'd love to own one. They're unique as can be, fun to drive and get more attention than just about anything. If you need 4wd, they can't be beat. Lock all the diffs, put it 4lo and it'll bend the steering arms in a parking lot... They're seriously capable offroad.
