What is the watch for? Actual outdoor use or just something to look badass on your wrist? What features are important if you are using it outdoors (ie compass, altimeter (therefore barometer))?

If your looking to actually use it, throwing $1000 at it seems wayyyy overkill. Get a Core for $250 and beat the shit out of it, then pickup another when you go too far. I've had my Core for 9 months and I really beat on my gear, and it is still in great shape.

Cliffnotes: If your really going to beat on it, not just scuff it up a few times, get something cheap that you can replace. If you want a tactical watch to wear to dinner, see the above posts.

my criteria is time, date and rugged. i want to hiking, fishing, camping, swimming, work on my car, out and about pulling towing snow plowing in the winter. i basically want a beater that can hold up to a beating. the core looks good and i also saw a g shock MR-G that looks awesome but as most have said the g shocks are hideous and someone else mentioned if you get something less expensive it doesn't hurt so bad when you do kill it and have to replace it.
