Just wanted to share our documentation of the newest (and quickest) project car we'll probably ever work on given the time constraints... a PPI RAZOR R8 undergoes weight reduction surgery with a 130lb drop off the OEM factory Audi R8 seats. We received the R8 this morning and I took the liberty of yanking out the seats myself as a headstart - funny how much there is in common with the Tecno G :D.

The only caveat would be that we have the vehicle for only today and tomorrow night. On Thursday morning it gets packed up by BBi to ship out to Road America, Atlanta where it'll be raced to hell and back by PPI NA. Among other projects (some of them top secret) lined up for the R8, this one just has to happen in one day: T1 seat transplants...but we have to prototype fabricate all the custom mounting hardware!

It's also great to be working with other like-minded manufacturers about product manufacturing (from where we can call for local support if needed):

•PPi providing all of us with TWO project R8s (yes there's a red one)
•BBi Autosport handled the track-ready KW suspension work and exhaust fabrication
•OEMPL.us installed all the PPI product to perfection.

We'll be handling what we can with the weight reduction. Will we finish in time? Luckily, we've reserved a set here specifically to this car (the rest are going into GT-Rs!). Wish us luck for tomorrow? :bitenails:

I did what I could in regards to taking photos - was completely rushed! Hope everyone enjoys :).

Wow... I am going have to honestly say in my opinion some of the best pictures I've seen. Something about the angles with the black & white pulls it off great.
Dayyyymmmm!!!!!!!!
I was going to say it but someone already did. But DAYYYMMM!

BACK from lunch....

...and a bit nervous. We're looking at 2.5 hours of "day" left and I'm sure we'll all be ready and willing to burn-in a few more hours of the day though. We just finished a quick meeting about what else needs to be fabricated for the vehicle and the floor brackets to work.

A few things to note:
The brackets can't actually just sit on the floor, there is a compartment for all the SRS hardware and wires that need "clearance". In fact a cover sits on top of the delicate area so that no wires are snagged so while we aim to safely tuck all the wiring back into the floorspace, we want to be absolutely sure these brackets won't be in the way. THUS, we came up with low-rise spacers last-minute, somewhat similar again to what we found in the G, but with an extra touch of style for the Razor R8.

Our Doosan lathe spooling up the 3/4" 'designer' spacers...;). We probably could have used the 20 minutes lost in thought about the aesthetics of the spacers, but...it's PPI's Razor R8, come on!

More reppage, and kicking out 20 of them like popcorn.

-Material being sized up...

-The literal "drawing board"...

Onwards to victory?

Good Fing God!!! That my friend is pure SEXYNESS! Tell Betim I need an inspection drive to make sure everything is running smooth.

Last pics of...the machine! You know I love that thing. Seriously guys..You tell this machine what to make and...BAM it makes a hundred of them!

Nice work as usual guys.
That's Sweet nice work

Heliarc TIG welding the pair of prototype brackets...

Based on the template, PPI's RAZOR R8 can now upgrade to a 5 or 6 point harness submarine assembly with these brackets (even if they are just prototypes). When either this car or the red one comes back to our HQ, we will have laser-cut production powdercoated floor brackets available to replace these to install quickly and easily into existing R8s.

In an era of mass production and consumption, it is great to see innovative craftsman (in the truest sense of the word) create objects of beautiful form while combining masterful function. Until now, I have never been impressed by any of the aftermarket seat options available, great work!

Thank you ARTX, we are glad to be of service to both this community and the aftermarket industry.
and we've reached day's end...

I'd like to throw it this more alluring picture taken about an hour ago just to end today's extremely focused fabrication day. Tomorrow should be a bit more "fun". ;).

...well that and Steve says he's got a hot date tonight and is ready to make pearl necklaces for a change!

Hi Andy, thanks for the compliments. I'm assuming you've checked out the brochure? Let me know if you would like a physical one. I was wondering when someone would chime in on the plumb-bob, I forgot to mention our chihuahua ground support team in the build-up :).

to the nitty gritty end...

-Audi R8 arrives in time at BBI Autosport, Huntington Beach - another extremely verified Tecnocraft Installation Facility.

-A few moments after arrival, the car gets ready for transport across the nation to Road America and must be "ready-to-race" off the transport. It receives Hoosier shoes.

-Just another note, BBI's installation of KW HLS (Hydraulic Lift Suspension) is operated by a single button press which raises the vehicle nearly half a foot front and rear. Spring rates were tuned the day before we even received the car.

-T1 racing seat prepared Razor R8.

-Project completed, safe and secure. Accomodation of the submarine crotch belt also went seamless, harnesses are at safe operating distances and the drivers seat has been positioned about an inch lower and -15 degree on a plane via side plates to accomodate a 5'10" driver + helmet. When this specific R8 returns, it will be outfitted with our chromoly version of floor brackets and have full use of stock seatbelt click-locks and hardware. While on it's North America racing tour, it wouldn't need any of these "unnecessary" items.

We would like to thank PPI NA for the gorgeous vehicles, BBi Autosport (for the uncanny support during a few incidents), and OEMPLUS for providing information about the RAZOR Kit, seatbelt support and part delivery. We wish the PPI RAZOR R8 good luck on its racing schedule!

Now where's that red one ;).

By sheer luck, Dave (CallmeDPit) and Alex from CarbonFiberGear.com (another sponsor here on L4P) showed up at Tecnocraft just as I placed the last bolt into the T1 outfitted R8. As a formidable correspondent to the carbon fiber enthusiast community, I undoubtedly know CFG has a "lot to share" about their entire-day visit with us! We welcomed their visit and would hope to see them again soon.
Awesome build. Looks great. Question about the seats. Do they comply with competition (FIA) certs? or are they street seats?

Thanks and thanks for bringing that up. In truth, we would love for these seats to be homologated by FIA someday, though we have referenced FIA publications, consultants and other resources to make sure we were complying with safety standards across many motorsport associations (from both construction and hardware support for any seat builds), yet obviously these are currently for "street" use, and from what I've understood from this project and others, the T1s will be used in "street" classes... or PPI NA may just be using the vehicle as a huge publicity item and we're going along for the ride? Nonetheless, should PPI actually run into any problems using these seats, we'll be giving any emergency support and have made sure that they take the stock seats and hardware with them to any event (and I'm assuming would use them if necessary)
