...but I don't have BC money, so it's 997 base or S for me.

Is the S worth the extra coin? I'm looking used as well. I know the 997 came out in '05. What's the story on those and up from there (07-08).

I don't want a manual, I wanna go tip.

WTF is PDK? Is it a must have?

Speaking of "must haves," what are they for a 997?

C2(S) good enough, or C4(S) tons better?

Mileage wise, when does it get scary? I'd rather get one 30k miles and under.

Maintenance wise, rape fest at the dealer? I've mostly rolled w/ Benzes, so I'm used to bringing my own KY.

CPO must? Aftermarket warranty must?

I think that's about all the questions I have for now! Thanks in advance to those who answer and lend a hand to this Porsche n00b!

I'll let the actual Porsche owners give their valid opinions, I'd just suggest going for a MY09+ 997.2 with dry sump and direct injection. Those are some of my "must haves".

The 997.2 came out in 08 and introduced direct injection and PDK and some other things as well as 40hp bump for the S to 385 and a bump to 340 for the standard models.
Personally, I think the S is worth it. It's a little bit sharper and has more power. Also, the .2 cars have a better auto tranny and more power as well, so unless you're modding it's nice to have.

PDK is a dual clutch transmission that is by far better in every single way possible compared to tiptronic. If you're going to get an auto Porsche, get PDK....you won't regret it.

I bought my car new and I've only been to the first yearly service which was about 500, not too bad IMO.

Honestly, you get 90% of the thrills with the 997.1's. Only major exterior differences up LED tails and different DRL's

yeah I just discovered there is a 997.2. Hmmm.. could you retrofit the taillights on a 997.1?

So what are the power figures for the 997.1?

As for dailying the car, is PDK alright, or fragile?

If you look on 6speedonline, people retrofit the tail lights all the time.
The 997.1 C2S/C4S put out around 345hp, as for the non-S models I think it was around 320hp.

PDK is track bred IIRC, and is NOT available on the 997.1. It's definitely not fragile, it can take a beating. When it's not in sport mode the shifts are very smooth and comfortable, but as soon as you put it in sport or sport plus, they speed up and become a little more harsh. I personally always keep it in sport mode because I love the feeling when it fires off the shifts.

Also, look for a car with the sport chrono package. With PDK, that gives you launch control.

Here is a good side by side of a 997.1 (gray) and 997.2 (blue), both have the same wheels and our custom fitment to run 11.5" with no fender more on a narrow 997!

you definetly wanna get one with the sports exaust. Apart from that you cant go wrong with any 997 just depends whether you want 4 wheel drive (c4) or rear wheel drive (c2)

Tip or manual they are great cars.. I've owned a launch edition Carrera S manual, these are 2005 will all the options ie: adaptive seats, ceramic brakes, Sport Chrono, pasm etc.. really fast cars.. I also owned an 07 997 base tip..they are great cars, the tip adapts to your driving, if you drive it like a grandma it drives like it, but to say that manual is faster on the track than a tip? good luck out running one who has track experience..lol it's an idea of people who never owned one..
now with 997.2 the good thing is direct injection, better nav and dual clutch tranny.. but that;s about it...oh led drl..lol
if you want a 997.2 find a used one, they are in the 60-70k range.. they are a bit quicker, but if I owned a 997 now i dont see a point to upgrade unless i'm going turbo or gt2/3 cars....if you're concerned about repairs, buy the newest one that you can CPO or buy extended warranty for.. good luck

saw this used 09 white pdk 19kmiles at Carlsen Porsche for $69k call Gary Quibelan if youre interested

I've driven TIP, PDK, and Stick 911's. I hate to disagree with a fellow board member, but please don't get tip. You'll thank me later.

It is a great car all around. My advice, go for the S, since a little extra power will always be welcome. You may drive a normal 911 and think it is fine for now, but one day you will want extra power. I prefer the 6-speed for sure, but if you must have an auto, go for a PDK, it is much better.

Well damn. I guess I'm gonna have to save more coin before I get an '09+ PDK S w/ Chrono package then. LOL. Bastards, making me spend more!

Too late. Sold it last year for major cash, couldn't pass up the offer! :)

If you want a 2010 convertible with 2200 miles on it, let me know ;)

jk, I'm in love with it. And you'll be in love with yours when you get one!
