Smoking With Cigarettes: Latest Mercedes-AMG Boat is a High Performance Homage

Jump to Latest

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing have teamed up once again to produce a high-performance powerboat inspired by the automaker’s high performance road cars. This time around, the collision of the two entities has resulted in the 2017 50' Marauder AMG – a lightweight boat that its pulls styling cues directly from the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The Cigarette Racing Team 2017 50' Marauder AMG has employed the extensive use of carbon fiber to shed over 1,300 pounds over the standard 50-foot Marauder. The engine hatch, deck, cockpit and interior consoles are all made of lightweight carbon fiber with a foam core, while further pounds were shed by switching various electronics for lightweight alternatives.

Beneath that carbon engine hatch sits two Mercury Racing quad-cam, four-valve engines that together are good for up to 3,100 horsepower. The boat comes with two keys, one that will unlock the engines’ full 1,550 horsepower on race gas, and another that enables 1,350 horsepower on 91 octane pump gas. That’s enough power to make it worthy of wearing the same nameplate as the 577 horsepower AMG GT R, we’d say.

Keeping with the AMG theme, the Marauder AMG features styling cues and elements that are finished in the same Green Hell Magno paint available on the AMG GT R. These include the paint and exterior detailing, interior seats and seat inserts. The special logo on the side intended to mark AMG and Cigarette’s 10th year in partnership with one another also uses the extremely unique color.

"The 2017 50' Marauder AMG is a particularly striking result of our continued collaboration with the Cigarette Racing Team, and a fitting tribute to honor 10 years of working together," said Daimler chief of design Gorden Wagener. "One racing icon has inspired another, and we are proud to continue to set the benchmark and seamlessly combine design and performance both on land and on the sea."
