When looking for a particular style in a particular budget, I find overstock.com to be helpful, especially in the less than $500 watch group. You can narrow your search based on budget. Certainly, this is not an exhaustive site, but its a start. Furthermore, since you are exposing the movement, which is where alot of the investment resides, you'll likely be testing the waters of the Sturhling and Tao International Watch categories due to your budget. You'll not find Hermes, Tag, or VC in your budget, unless you happen to be friends with Arnold Palmer's nephew

 

I'm really not sure about most of the designs. But Naked Watch Company's Maxwell looks sorta alright.

 

i had one made for Ben Canon for less than 5. Probably the best i've seen for the money. Ask him to post some pics.

Any Skeleton in that price range is gonna be junk. But if you want the look...you can certainly find it.

I usually frequent Chronoshark to find ideas on low budget watches.. they've had a lot of "Android" watches, I'm assuming its not very high quality but they have quite a few skeleton models. Their website is - Android USA . Just inside your budget too.

 

I bought my cousin this watch.

But it came with a leather strap with stitching to match the face (which looked 100x better). It looks great and functions well. I believe it has a 48 hour reserve and comes with a 10 yr warranty. It was about $200 when I bought it.

Honestly i was surprised too when I saw it. 99% of stuff is bland but this one really caught my eye. There is a yellow version that doesn't look as good though.

i remember seeing a guy selling a used monaco on timezone.com for a decent price. wasn't the gulf edition though.

 

A while back I read something about this watch:

It's a skeleton watch from Tavannes. The watch was supposed to sell for $995, but I haven't been able to find anything new on it, other than the writeup I initially saw.

More than you said you were looking to spend, but it looks like a nice piece.
