Little is known about the next-generation, or C7, Corvette. Following what others magazines, publications, and blogs are asserting, we know GM is pushing for a 2014 launch. We say pushing because it is presumed that they don’t know if they can make that deadline because of all the turmoil caused by the bankruptcy.

The Chevrolet C7 Corvette will make a major styling departure from the past two generations although no official design has been given the green light. We do have confirmation from General Motors' Vice President of Global Design Ed Welburn, who told InsideLine that the split window, reminiscent of the 1963 Corvette and also found on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept car that appeared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is something he expects to implement in the next Corvette.

Performance will, of course, be paramount but we would not expect anything less than eight cylinders for propulsion, although this sentiment walks the line between a hope and a prediction. Motor Trend says that a new small-block OHV V-8 will make its debut in the C7 Corvette. It is predicted that the engine will displace 5.5 liters and create 440 hp.

Finally, one area that GM is spending a considerable amount of time is in the interior. GM considers this to be the one chic in the current Corvette’s armor. To rectify this problem, GM hopes to overhaul the styling and materials used inside the cabin. The changes to the interior may be a large part of the next car's delays.

To keep its current clientele happy, expect a revamped version of the current C6 for 2012.
