Last year, Arnold & Son introduced the Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Escapement (UTTE) at Basel World. At only 8.34 mm thick, it was the thinnest tourbillon-equipped watch available at that time and only offered in a limited edition series, 50 pieces in rose gold and 50 pieces in palladium. Arnold & Son is now extending their Instrument Collection with two new variants of the UTTE in the same precious metals, each with a new dial.

Like their limited edition siblings, the new UTTE models also come with the beautifully crafted hand-wound A&S8200 manufacture movement which has an impressive power reserve of over 90 hours beating at 21,600 vibrations/hour. The power reserve comes from two barrels. The movement is only 2.97 mm thick and 32 mm in diameter, helping make the UTTE one of the thinnest tourbillon watches in the market today. Depending on the precious metal used for the case, the decoration on the movement is slightly different so that the movement matches the case color. The 18-carat rose gold version has the movement treated in rhodium and decorated with Côtes de Genève rayonnantes while the palladium version has a NAC grey treatment with a straight Côtes de Geneve pattern.

Perhaps one of the most outstanding features about this timepiece is the overall aesthetic appeal of the dial. With a striking 14 mm exposed tourbillon cage, almost half of the dial is dedicated to highlighting the one-minute flying tourbillon. And as if that was not impressive enough, Arnold & Son also made the tourbillon cage totally spherical, eliminating all flat surfaces. This gives the tourbillon a three dimensional effect that is simply stunning to look at. The multilevel dial construction also adds more depth to this already amazing dial. Two new dials are offered, a silvery-white and silvery opaline dial on the rose gold version and a light-grey and silvery opaline dial on the palladium version. The previous limited edition models had a visible pattern across the dial; the new models have more of a textured look to the dial. The dial is also perfectly symmetric. Combine that with the Roman numerals and the blued hands and the harmony between the different dial elements is unparalleled.

The new UTTE models come in a subtle yet modern case diameter of 42 mm on hand-stitched black or brown alligator leather strap.

Actually, since they're owned by Citizen now, shouldn't we be disparaging them as a mere Japanese poseur or something? ;)
