i'm planning a day trip to Napa in early October and i wanted to reach out to some of the wine connoisseurs out there.

i'm looking for wineries to visit and tour. since it's our first time visiting, we'd like to visit the top 3-4 wineries for the scenery and beautiful surroundings.

As of right now, i know we definitely want to visit Opus One and Sterling.

Any other suggestions?

Gundlach Bundschue (I know I spelled that wrong but you get the idea). It's closer to Sonoma but is a cool winery that is built into a mountain with caves and everything.

V. Sattui is good too, especially if you want to grab a bite to eat also. Daryl Sattui the winemaker is a client of mine and all around nice guy!

Also Alpha Omega is small but very good and it's nice to sit outside by their huge fountain. They do indoor and outdoor tastings.....

castella di armosa (sp) it's literally a CASTLE, 17 dollars for 5 tastes not bad at all and very cool place to visit

Just returned from Napa last week. You won't be disappointed with Opus One and Robert Mondavi. Another place worth visiting is Clos Pegasus. Have fun!

you can't really go wrong with any of the places, you need to decide what types of wine you like and then go to a place that specializes in each - different regions produce different types of wine eg napa, sonoma, etc. also, most places - if you don't have a contact - will not give you the experience you are likely looking for. smaller places will talk to you more about the wine, give tours of the winery, etc.

my buddy owns Jarvis, he will treat you well if you go there, but it is by reservation only.
Luna - good wine but not the greatest place for tasting
silver oak - known for their cab, decent tasting setup
carneros - haven't been but heard good things
Schramsberg - champagne, by appointment only but a must if your going with a female
zd - will likely give a tour if called in advance - good people

call around, ask what their tasting setup is like, do they include barrel tasting, a tour, etc. pm if you'd like more info

i like rubicon's cab. they have a cafe too that you can sit and have picnic

joseph phelps is decent too. their membership is definitely worth it.
