OK guys, so about a month ago I decided to venture into the app world (iPhone/Android). My existing online business does well; however, I'm always looking for growth and diversity as well as keeping myself busy and entertained. I can still remember the day (Dec 01 2009) when I started my old web site (not knowing anything about business) and how exciting it was, primarily because I was starting from literally nothing. I think I had like $80 in the bank and my car was on the verge of getting repossessed. It was an exciting journey that I want to experience again (but this time with some business and marketing experience!).
I've decided to share this bloggish thread with my L4P fam as I know there are a lot of people on here with big dreams. Many are scared to take that risk or plunge to achieve their goals, so hopefully all the dreamers here can soak up some valuable information from this start up and push forward to get where they want to be in life!
You don't need vcap to be successful, I have already proven this.
A bit about myself.
I am NOT an app developer. Many people make the excuse to try something (like making an app) because they aren't capable of "coding" etc, etc. Any ambitious businessman will not let this hold him back as coding is not a necessity. You think the owner of EA games codes his own stuff? He's just good at giving orders! I am paying a guy on oDesk about (more or less) $1400 bucks to build my app which isn't anything crazy to be honest, then again, Snapchat or Instagram isn't anything epic either. There are many book smart people out there that went to college for years upon years and program apps for a living yet still make far less than 100k/year. Society makes people believe they need to be some sort of genius and go to university/school to obtain financial freedom however, I (and many others) have proven this to NOT be the case.
My beliefs:
-You don't need a lot of money to make big money. It just makes it easier.
-Marketing is more important than the product itself.
-Don't invent something YOU would use (you want to appeal to the masses, and if you're an entrepreneur, odds are you are smarter than most).
Next post I will reveal more info on the app itself, how much I will spend on marketing, and my marketing approach.
Appreciate your feedback.
Pete
