It’s not an official time set by Mercedes -AMG, but by independent magazine sport auto.

Ever since the Mercedes-AMG GT R made its debut, the German automaker has been calling it the “Beast of the Green Hell ,” saying that it was developed on the world famous  Nurburgring . Strangely enough, the automaker itself never revealed a lap time but now sport auto has conducted its own. The publication stopped the clock at 7:10.9, making the AMG GT R the fastest road-going sports car ever tested by the motoring magazine.

But how does it stack up against the competition? Well, the GT R certainly holds its own, but it’s not the fastest road-going car to ever lap the Nurburgring . In fact, its bested by the Nissan GT-R NISMO, Lamborghini Aventador SV and Porsche 918 Spyder to name a few.

Still, with a time of 7:10.9, the German automaker’s sports car is is faster than many other sports cars around the track including the Lexus LFA Nurburgring, Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR and Ferrari 488 GTB.
