See more Mercedes AMG GT photos at AutoGuide.comAs a very fashion-forward city, New York really is one of the most appropriate places for Mercedes to tease the interior of what’s likely to be its most head-turning model for years to come.
And the German brand is doing exactly that on the eve of the 2014 New York Auto Show by giving the world a look at its new sports car… from the inside. Unfortunately, Mercedes is keeping the sheet metal sheathed for now, but photos shown during a pre-show event reveal the sports car’s aviation-inspired future cockpit.
Sadly, mechanical details are also still being kept a secret. This is the second sports car built exclusively by Mercedes-AMG and it aims to take on Porsche’s storied 911.
Mercedes-AMG GT“The new Mercedes-AMG GT proves that we will be positioning AMG as a dynamic sports car brand even more strongly and aggressively than before,” Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers said.”A first exclusive look at the design of the interior shows what is in store for our customers: a GT sports car in its purest form.”
Rather than moving in a hardcore performance direction, the AMG GT is expected to be a more practical daily driver. Well, at least as practical as a to seat sports car can it. It is expected to house a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with roughly 500 hp. Some of the other notable changes to look forward to with the car include normal doors rather than the gull wings packaged with the SLS.
Like that car, this one als has a very distinctive interior style. Once again, Mercedes is re-imagining its cabin, although this time it looks like the car will get the same sort of standalone infotainment screen that is becoming an industry trend. The lowly CLA-Class has one and even Mazda’s compact 3 makes use of a similarly styled screen.
