This wasn't on the market long either before going into contract - last ask was $48,000,000, located in Southampton

The local real estate market appears to be gathering steam in both volume and breadth. While the global property investment market is predicted to grow by around 6 percent this year. The real estate markets generally experienced and provide you knowledge to determine the listing price for your property, allowing you to obtain the best possible sale price in the shortest amount of time.

The Hamptons Market Stays Busy - 26 Deals Went Into Contract Over The Past Week:

1 Deal over $30million
2 Deals between $6million and $8million
7 Deals between $2million and $4million
3 Deals between $1million and $2million

that market is a completely different class than anything else.

I believe it was this week purchase mortgage applications were down, housing sale transactions were down too. (seasonal, run up in rates, and inflated sales prices) I agree with analyst for 2014 you will see a normal small % of appreciation.

NY Realtor here, but upstate. Nowhere near those prices above. Select homes, but nothing on that kind of scale.
