What: Lighthouse Challenge New Jersey 2013
When: Saturday, October 19th through Sunday, October 20th

Starting Point: Wawa #8305
51 Berkley Rd
Paulsboro, NJ 08068
Time: 9:00 AM

The Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey is a weekend long event where the 11 land based lighthouses of NJ are opened to the public for visitation and climbing. In addition to the 11 lighthouses there are two museums, and two life saving stations to visit as part of the challenge. A souvenir passport will be available for purchase for $1.00. As you visit each location, your passport will be stamped as proof of each visit. This will be your souvenir to commemorate your participation in the event.

For additional information about the Lighthouse Challenge, please visit the Official Lighthouse Challenge of NJ website, the Lighthouse Society of NJ website, and the Lighthouse Challenge of NJ Facebook page.

This marks the fifth year 3SNJ will be participating in this event. This is a rain or shine event, so there are no excuses to miss this even if we have bad weather. As mentioned in posts for this event in previous years, the first time we participated, there was a Noreaster with driving rain and high winds, and we still completed the challenge. Last year we had awesome weather and the views from the top of the lighthouses were spectacular. This is a great opportunity to visit some great sites and learn a little about the these monuments that have aided sailing vessels for a century or more. This is 3SNJ's longest official cruise event, totaling about 390 miles along most of New Jersey's shoreline. If you are into photography, you will not be disappointed with the vantage points the lighthouse can provide. It does not matter what car you drive in this event. We do not discriminate and this is not a race. The cruise is very casual with many stops, so it does not even feel like you are doing the distance. This is a PUBLIC event so you can invite anyone that has a desire to cruise with us.

The locations that will be part of this event/cruise will be:

Day #1:
Wawa in Paulsboro (Meeting place)
Tinicum Lighthouse in Paulsboro
Finn's Point Lighthouse in Pennsville
East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville
Cape May County Historical Museum in Cape May Court House
Tatham Life Saving Station in Stone Harbor
Hereford Inlet Lighthouse in North Wildwood
Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May
US Life Saving Station 30 in Ocean City
Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City (Night climb and end of day #1)

Day #2:
Tucker's Island Lighthouse in Tuckerton (Start of day #2 and meeting place)
Barnegat Light Historical Museum in Barnegat Light
Barnegat Lighthouse in Barnegat Light
Sea Girt Lighthouse in Sea Girt
Twin Lights of Navesink in Highlands
Sandy Hook Lighthouse in Highlands (Congratulate yourself in completing the Lighthouse Challenge)

This is the order in which we will visit each location.

Lighthouse location details will be posted at a later date.
There will be an overnight stay between Atlantic City and Tuckerton.
There will be no official hotel for this event. Lodging arrangements will be the responsibility of the participant. Lunch stops will be made on the fly and fitted into the schedule.
The Sandy Hook Lighthouse in Highlands will be our end point for this event. From there all participants can depart for home.

So who's in???

That sounds like fun. I can't say yes, but I'm not ruling it out considering its over a month away

I'm sure hotels in AC will be really cheap then too

Bur: what would you be driving if you come down? again, it doesn't matter, you could show up in a geo metro if you wanted.

awesome, starting point isn't far from Philly. and yes, it's great for photo's. many great vantage points.

i'm going to try and update this each week till then, let me know how many are coming, while type of car isn't important, like I said, could be a Honda civic, but I like cars, so I think you know where that's going.

obviously, if doing both days, hotels are a good idea to book, sooner the better. there is no requirement to do both days.
