Please excuse my ignorance but why is water based tire shine better?

Silicone based dressings like the dealer used don't get absorbed by the tire, and tend to sling (throw tire dressing everywhere), plus they look like crap IMO. Water based dressings are absorbed by the tire and help protect it, but being water based don't last quite as long. Beyond that, they almost always have the matte/subdued finish detailers prefer.
