I stayed at the W lakeshore back in May. It was close to where my customer was having a show so it made sense. Nice hotel but it was a short cab ride away from everything. I would stay at the city center if i had to go back.

the palomer is in the prime location to all the stuff on ohio, as well as the mag mile.

but the bean, sears tower, and all that are on the other side of the river, which you can either cab, or walk... I tend to just walk around ever where

also, what is the purpose for the visit?
Heavy drinking and smoking cigars with breaks in between for chasing women. We ended up booking at the W City Center, but now I might consider a switch.

W has nice women, but requires a Cab to go out. Let me know if you are going to any clubs, and I can take care of covers.

Wait, if you are coming for nye, you should look into packages. THey have a lot of big parties and room deals. Also, looking last minute on price line, or going through amex is the cheapest way

Looked on AMEX's website, but I would have ended up paying more than going through Starwoods directly w/ the AAA discount.

Do you have any recommendations for clubs on NYE?

OH man. I will post a few when I get home, but the hotel banquet parties are the best.

I like the W lake shore better then the city center. Not sure when you are coming or how much you paid but I have free weekend night vouchers I am trying to sell. PM me if interested.

Sorry for the last response here.
I'm based in Chicago and review luxury hotels all year round. You could check out my blog, thelavish.com to see what i'm talking about.

My personal favorites and ones that in my opinion, are the best

1.) The Trump Hotel ( 10 ft floor-to-cieling windows show city, river views, huge rooms (550+ sq ft average size), full blown kitchen with ss appliances, very comfortable bed (high thread count) excellent location.

2.) The Elysian. ( Huge rooms, excellent decor (uber chic), balconies are very spacious, memory foam mattresses, impressive bathrooms, no tipping policy ( I like that one)

3.) Park Hyatt. ( Sliding bathroom door (gives view of room/room window). window seats, spacious rooms, awesome location.

4.) The Wit ( why have i chosen this above the ritz carlton/four seasons?....because its bold, trendy design coupled with that awesome scent upon hotel entrance, to those birds churping in the morning, to that condo looking paramount suite with two full floor to cieling windows...to the amazing touch screen phone..you get the picture, it provides enough to impress at half the cost.)

5.) The Talbott Hotel. ( small boutique luxury hotel with personal/home feel, wonderful service, charming rooms and gold coast location)

Want more assurance? well, just check out the pictures of these hotels on my blog. I've stayed there personally, taken pictures and written reviews.

I stayed at the new Fairmont hotel last May and it was fantastic. Great location, loved the bar late night for a goodnight martini.
