Hey guys,

A buddy of mine is about to spend about 8K on a watch and was looking at the Chopard Mille Miglia 44mm Chrono with a white dial. While I like Chopards a lot, they tank in value big time and can be had way cheaper from Joma or other grey market dealers. He then said he might look at Graham and I quickly shut him down on that idea (a bit gaudy and looks stupid on the wrist IMO). I suggested Panerai and he was very open to it.

While I'm into the historics and manuals, he likes the autos. I quickly suggested the 312, 351, 359 and to change things up, the 507.

What would you guys recommend? Keep in mind he likes the complicated type.

I've seen that thread and its great. Was hoping to get some Panerai only suggestions.

I'm always surprised how many like the 312. IMO it's top 10 ugly. 212 213 you have increased complication in a classic model that has stood the test of time. The 312 will never be a classic piece or anything special. It's caught in between. Doesn't know what it is. Not worth that kinda lettuce IMO.

that's kinda the point: it's the intersection of many things. if he had the budget to purchase distinction, he would go for 382, 127, 368, etc. $8k is entry level, and i'm guessing, will be a daily wear. the 104/111/312 offers the most versatility without being pigeonholed to one specific type (chrono, submersible, etc)

It's not his only watch. He has a Breitling SA white dial, Monte Blanc Timewalker Chrono white dial, a Tag F1 and a G-Shock. Come to think of it he likes white dials. I think it's because he's brown skinned so he may like the contrast, not 100% sure though.

The 233 is a nice suggestion and would be my pick too if I was in his shoes. 1950 case, 8 day PR, PR indicator, GMT, manual wind and a date function too, what's not to like?

Anyone know of a white dial auto?

Just FYI to the OP, the 49 and 51 are both 40mm vs 44 that most other Panerais are.

The 113 is a white dial, but you said the buyer didn't want a manual wind (idk why, it's just as easy to deal with as an auto.)
