So, I've got an issue. Thanks to being young male and driving fast, my insurance carrier (Mercury) dropped me about 6 months ago. I switched insurance carriers but its ridiculously expensive. Now here's where the real problem starts. I sold my X5M and am going to be picking up something small, fast, and with 2 doors in the next few weeks and I'm worried my new insurance company isn't going to cover me. Does anyone know any tricks/companies that are a bit "lenient" and willing to take a bit of a risk. Price isn't as much of an issue (although it would be nice to pay less) as long as I can get coverage

Any help is appreciated.

Why don't you ring the insurance company and find out if they will cover you first? ring around, possibly mention one company will cover you for however much, can they do any better (even if the others wont cover you, maybe if they think someone else will they will be more likely to take the risk)

how did your insurance know you were a fast driver and why exactly did they drop you for? Hopefully not tickets. I told my brother in Orlando to never pull over for speeding; just floor it and exit the road before the cop can catch up :) No ticket then

I got a ticket going a bit to fast (somewhere around 65 over the limit :p). I got it cleared up in court and no points were put on my license but my license was restricted for a few months and the insurance companies somehow found out about that. (even though the court said they wouldn't)

I would just get quotes from a few different companies and see which is the cheapest. Progressive, Geico, American Family etc...

Does anyone have any experience with Fireman's Fund or Wawanesa? I've heard good things about them but wanted to see if anyone here uses them

You could always try the car insurance companies that centered around exotics, classics and luxury cars. Haggarty, Chrome, etc. I'm sure they are used to their clients going a tad too fast. It comes with the territory when you're insuring a wealthy guy who likes to play around with his Lambo and what not.

65 over, why did you stop? I know it's not your first thought to keep going, but at stupid fast speeds if you just keep going the cop eventually stops. Pretty much every state except maybe Oklahoma and Ohio have a no chase policy. If the guy doesn't stop in a few minutes when seeing flashing lights, they have to call in to get the "okay" to keep pursuing. If the person isn't wanted for a felony, a cop wont give chase. The risk goes through the roof and no PD wants to be responsible for a death just because of a speeding ticket. They'll just radio for other units to keep a look out for a vehicle going fast. I found this out from a cop years ago.

If I was you, I'd invest a few grand into an Escort Passport 9500ci. A company does rear view mirror mods to integrate the display behind the glass. Worth the $ IMO. I know Texas is laser / radar legal and I believe Cali is as well.

The thing is if you get caught, it's a felony. I think it would be very tempting to keep going, but who knows if there will be another cop waiting for you. It's just the luck of the draw if you get caught... Not worth it IMO.

sadly in Georgia, it's a felony if you go 24 mph over the limit :(

Oops. Didn't know that when I was in Georgia this summer :)

But I doubt many people actually get charged with it (I could be wrong). I know in Illinois if you're going 30+ over the limit they can give you 6 months in jail. However, they're speed limit is 55 and everyone still hauls.

I had more tickets and crashes before the age of 22 than i care to admit.

I paid out the ass for insurance for 3 years. i learned my lesson.

why don't you call your insurance company and ask them before you buy the car.

progressive is way cheaper than everyone else.

if you're a first time offender (no record) then you usually get off. If you have a record, nope....

It also depends on the type of cop pulling you over. If it's a state trooper...

Radar-Mirror
Not true. Texas banned laser jammers in 2011...
