Building a Chicago Rooftop Deck

I just closed on a small condo in Bucktown on Tuesday. It's on the third story and I have interior access to the roof which is 65' x 18'. In the process of looking for a place, I saw some really sweet decks and got a few good ideas.

I basically want a wooden deck, pergola, and an outdoor kitchen with a garden variety of plants and trees. I can do most of the work but I want the deck itself to be done professionally. So, if anyone knows a good, reputable builder who specializes in decks please let me know.

Here are a few pics of the staircase and the roof.

Any good deck builder in that market should know to consult with a structural engineer first to determine the load. That looks like a pretty new roof as well, so make sure they don't penetrate that membrane! :)

I also assume that you've checked the declarations & bylaws of the condo association to make sure that you have the right to do this. Even though by virtue of your unit you get roof access, it's part of the overall structure and may be subject to condo association approval. Maybe...maybe not. Just 2 cents worth. ;)

Looks like a fun project - good luck with it!!!
Big congrats on the little girl. She's a doll. ;)

The abode is definitely coming along nicely!
Insulation. Great idea.
