My dad has this old Seiko dating back more than 30 years; one day he returned from work telling me some of his junior colleagues remarked how cool his 'retro' watch was. Had a good laugh.

It's kinda ironic...

If you drive a Honda and wear a real timepiece, everyone assumes it's fake, whereas if you drive a Ferrari, everyone assumes your watch is real...
So right about the $ assumption everyone makes!

In a similar vein I have a Bentley Continental GT, and have been looking round for another watch to start a collection (Omega Speedmaster 3221 silver face, and 2003 Omega Constellation quartz bought new before I knew about watches!). I really resisted getting the Breitling Bentley GT because it seemed just a bit crass doing the matching thing.

But you know, I could not find another watch that I liked better. Great design, love the diamond shaped bezel that carries off the grill look so well, at 44.8 a good size too - not the monsters that Breitling produce for big wrists. It kept calling to me over the months, so today I pulled the plug on one with a very nice dark blue face - about the same color as my car - with white sub dials.

Should get it in a week or so. Now I'm looking for a matching headband and nail polish :)

Buddy from law school got a quartz rolex (trust me, if I had known what he was doing, I would have stopped it.)

We were all out at Sky bar, and this chick is hanging with us, and admiring his watch. She looks at it, then says "that's a fake, the second hand doesn't sweep. You're a f***ing fake."

I had to go outside and take 15 minutes by myself. I couldn't stop laughing.

My best one is this...

I'm at the local Taco joint that I used to frequent. Normally, I wear clothes and stuff that my dogs can't hurt or destroy. This time I was dressed and I had on my B01. The owner was talking to me as usual and all of a sudden he notices my watch. He's was in awe of it and wanted to look at it further. I said OK and asked if he liked Breitling - he replied yes and said he had 2 - as he's looking at it he inhales and turns to me and says "the dials are wrong." I smirk as I'm about to tell him this is Breitling's new movement and he suddenly says "I wear fake too"...now I'm cringing. I look up and say yeah, it's fake, did the sub-dials give it away? He says "yeah" and goes on to point other things that were wrong. I was laughing and cringing silently at the same time but he did say "it's a great example of a Breitling even if the dials are wrong."

Another good one happened at the same restaurant. I was wearing a Panerai when I went to buy another Panerai. I didn't want to leave it in the car while I stopped for something to eat; therefore, I put it on and went inside to eat. I was sitting where there was a window (plexi-glass) to the other dinning room (bar dining looking into the main dinning area). All of a sudden I hear this guy say "check this guy with 2 watches on." I'm intrigued and only look at them with my peripheral vision (I was watching the news and can only assume they think I can't hear them). His female dinning partner goes "huh" and looks over. She then said "those look like my boss's watch, no way he's wearing 2", then the guy goes "yeah, they're fake, I can tell." I so wanted to say, oh yeah, how can you tell (pounding on the plexi-glass)? Then I figured if they didn't know the difference then what's the point. They giggled at me for the rest of my lunch. It was so comical to me - I gave them all sorts of wrist shots - and they keep their peanut gallery going. I tried to record them but my 3Gs wouldn't pick them up. I even sat it right next to the plexi-glass dividing the two rooms.

FTR, I never wear 2 watches, I just didn't want a smash and grab for my electronics in my car and have them find my new watch - I hadn't even insured it yet.

Awesome!! I had a friend of a friend try and pass off a horribly fake quartz Bentley one night. My buddy knew it was fake and told him to check out my SA, then he started showing off his "Bentley". I told him that I had never felt a Bentley this lite before, his answer was that he thought it was titanium and graphite (it was "polished SS"). Then I asked how much he paid (figuring he would say either $2000 or $60000), but he said he had no idea, he just threw down some cash out of his wallet. I wanted to call him out so bad, but I held my tongue so he wouldn't throw a fit.

hehe at Todd's stories. They probably thought you were a 30K millionaire or something. I hate these noobs who asume everything is fake because they can't or don't have it themselves. lol Had someone say my Lum-Tec was fake once. Really? A fake Lum-Tec?

Speaking of Lum-Tec, I was just in my local Rolex ad and while looking at a couple or different models he spied my M40. Asked me how long I'd had my Panerai (was half out of my shirt cuff). I laughed and told him what it was and he said that for the price point it was a really good looking piece.

I can't wait to see the first one of these. I figure it's gotta happen some day.
what? a fake lum-tec? I always wondered why someone would bother; or think one was not real. Only $500

Lets take a $1000 M model. Lets say they can knock-it for $100 and sell it for $250. you've just mutiplied your original investment by 2.5 times. Apply the same basic pricipals to a $500 piece. And from a buyers standpoint, if you are only in the market for a $500 watch because that's all you can afford or thats all you wanna spend then increments of $50 or $100 matter greatly.
