As many of you may know, I received a B&R for my birthday on Saturday... unfortunately, the transaction was not as smooth as it should've been so here's my story in an attempt to help others avoid this.
This is to inform everyone that Steve G. Cutler CANNOT be trusted and is a liar. I would highly recommend everyone to NOT do any business with him, you've been warned.
Here is his info:
Name: Steve G. Cutler
Wife's Name: Cindy Cutler
Phone: (732) 429-8664
Email: [email protected]
TZ User: Cut
Location: New Jersey
Bank: Wachovia
References he gave me: Paul Mikulka ([email protected]) and Suan Prshah ([email protected]). Only Paul replied to say that he was reputable.
Here is the story:
I contacted Steve through TZ after finding a FS post he had on a "LNIB" Bell and Ross BR01-97 Commando. After several private messages, emails, texts, phone calls, reference verifications, researching him online, etc. - I decided to pull the trigger. I was a bit hesitant to deal with him because although he has been on TZ since 2008, he only had 13 posts total. So I asked a million questions, asked for tons of photos, and even checked the references he gave me... everything seemed ok. I even spoke with him on the phone several times and he insisted that he was someone to be trusted with and so forth.
According to him, he owned 2 BR01-97 Commandos, one that was part of his daily rotation and one that was NEW that he had gotten from a trade with someone else (claims he traded it for a Panerai he had that had no box or papers). He offered both to me, saying that if I was to buy the used one then he could offer me a greater discount. I told him from the very beginning that I was ONLY interested in the LNIB one that he had and that is the price I paid.
So I asked him to take a photo of the back of the watch together with the warranty card so that I could verify that the serial numbers matched (the BR01-97 Commando is a limited run of 500). He did and the number on the watch and warranty card was #26. At this point I felt pretty confident and safe, so I proceeded to finish the deal and sent him the money. We spoke on the phone for the very last time and he told me he was going to send the watch via USPS Express next-day.
I did receive the watch a few days later, but upon inspection I realized that a lot of things were not right. Here is a list of the problems:
1) The serial number on the watch that I received was #146 (the photos he sent me was for #26).
2) There was a lot of dirt/contamination BEHIND the crystal.
3) There was a slight nick and slight scratch on the bezel.
4) Rubber strap looks worn. Definitely not in the shape of a "NEW" watch.
Needless to say I was furious at this point. I assume that he must have sent me his old watch. I immediately called him and of course he didn't pick up. I tried several more times, left him a voice mail, sent him a text, and even an email - no replies. All I wanted was a reasonable explanation as to why he sent me #146 when he took photos of #26.
I took my watch to my reputable local watch person to clean the dirt from behind the crystal. Luckily for me, the dirt came off - but my watch person told me that the watch had been opened BEFORE (he used the words "tampered with before"), but that everything else looked ok.
I am still confused as to why he would open the watch in the first place...
I sent him a final email letting him know that I would give him until Tuesday to reply with an explanation before I shared my story with everyone online... and of course he has not replied.
Anyhow, the only good thing is that at least he did send me "a" watch, albeit not the one I paid for. It is in pretty good shape, except for the slight nick and slight scratch I already mentioned... so I can live with it. I am extremely picky so I did notice these small imperfections...
Please BEWARE OF THIS LIAR, he is definitely not someone to be trusted with.
