I've been looking into buying a laptop for some time now and everyone recommends the Mac Book Pro. Are there any pros/cons I should know before buying? I'm not computer savy other than basic operating procedures. I'm planning on going back to school and will be using it for that. Are there any recommendations where to purchase other than a Best Buy or Apple store?

I'd say go for it, I've had my 13'' alum. MB for 3 years now and the only problem I had was the hard drive failed about 7 months ago. Just replaced the drive and had all my stuff transfered over. Other than that it's been the best computer I've owned by far. Thinking of upgrading to a new 15" pro soon.

Hardware and quality wise, it's one of the best (if not the best) laptop money can buy. A little more expensive that the PC counterpart, but it's Apple so it's understandable. Got my 15.4 inch since 2008 almost 3 years of heavy usage and no problems whatsoever.

I love my MBP, I bought it a couple of months ago and handles programs like photoshop, Illustrator, iTunes, Google Chrome and Skype all at once without lagging.

I'm going to suggest you look into the new samsung notebooks as well as the lenovos. I would say lenovo is easily on par with apple. Plus most of their hardware is linux compatible out of the gate, if you are into that kind of thing. If you want an apple computer though and won't be persuaded any other way thats fine you will most likely be happy with your purchase.

You can't go wrong with Apple...

I have a friend who is an Anti-Apple guy and over the past 5 years he has gone from Acer, to HP to Dell to Toshiba and all of them have died...he is buying an Asus this week and just won't get an Apple out of ego issues

I haven't had much luck with those brands either, the business class toshiba's are usually pretty nice, but expensive. Thats why I suggest looking into lenovo and samsung.

i suggest not touching the the Samsung laptop. the worst one ever. My brother bought one, i think the one that made it look like the macbook pro, the touchpad on the Samsung is the worst. it is trying to immitate Apple in the worst way. My brother returned it after the second day, and got the 13" Macbook Air. He is so happy that he goes with Apple.

i used to hate Apple. i remembered when my cousin bought his first macbook pro 5 years ago. I was so mad, i was like why you buying Apple ? freaking expensive and overprice. While his macbook pro still running like new while i was going from HP, Sony, then back to HP and then i decided to get the white Macbook, and i will never go with anything other than Apple. You get what you paid.

^^HP is terrible in my opinion. But that is because personally I have never had any luck with them. The samsung ones were new and got pretty good reviews which is why I suggested them. I will stand by the fact that lenovos are rock solid anyways, they are probably the most used in the computer science field. And there are reasons for that.

You do know that the only difference between Apple and PC is the software correct? Apple went to intel chips some time ago.

I was talking about build quality! At the moment I have 5 laptops as I need them for work/school and use them a lot. Every each one of them except the Mac has had some kind of shit going wrong! Got 2 Sony's, 1 HP & 1 ASUS and only my MacBook Pro has been flawless! And it is the one I use when I travel or when I'm by the sea.

As for the PC counterpart, I was talking about a Windows PC with the same specs.

Your comparing Apples to Bananas, I know of many Apple priced non Apple laptops with same if not better build quality. Discrediting a 600$ item because it doesn't live up to par with a $1300 item is not cool.

what are these laptops you speak of?
i have yet to encounter them. even my Vaio, which is a higher-tier pc doesn't even compare to my dads macbook air in terms of build quality.

I need laptops for Game Art, modelling and stuff, so they're pretty powerful! And I'm not comparing Apples to Bananas. I said that the same spec PC is relatively cheaper than a Mac. Anyways, even the most powerful and expensive PC's almost cannot compare to Apple. It is known that Apple is a Hardware company and not a software one. (At least until lately)

HP Envy for one

I will give apple a round of applause for their trackpad though, unfortunately they have the same internal guts as any laptop except packaged in an aluminum shell.
