Putting a basic system in my Silverado extended cab pick up, just looking for better then stock sound not looking for big bass, clarity is preferred. The head unit is a mid-level Kenwood, the sub is an 8" Rockford Fosgate (in a homemade sealed box). Will be running two amps, one 300 watt Kenwood for the sub the other a 4 channel Sony 600 watt for the door speakers. I believe I am going with "Infinity Kappa" to replace all 4 current stock speakers (6 3/4 front 4x6 rears). The Sony puts out 130 rms as a 2 channel or 85 per as a 4 channel. I have purchased an 8 gauge amp kit and a fused 1 in 2 out power block. So ok 3 questions....1). Do I need to run a crossover for the sub or will the RCA outs for the sub take care of that? 2). How much space to I need for the motion of the sub is 1" clearance to the bottom of the rear seat enough space and 3). Should I run the rear speakers off just the head unit (just to fill in the sound space) and put more power to the front speakers or should I power all four speakers off the amp giving each speaker it's own channel? Using the amp as a 4 channel would reduce the power output considerably. Not sure which way to install, not sure what wold sound better. Equal power to each speaker or more power to the front using the rear speakers just to fill the sound stage. I have purchased all components already except for the speakers. I am open to suggestions on speakers too. Any advise is appreciated

1) Most modern amplifiers have a low pass filter (LPF) with adjustable frequency so you shouldn't need to run an external crossover. Your headunit may also have frequency adjustment for the subwoofer pre-out.
2) The excursion of a speaker really varies from speaker to speaker. I would imagine 1" would be adequate for a RF 8" sub. You can always call them and ask.
3) Generally I like to focus on setting a good front sound stage, but in this case, I would probably just power all 4 speakers and tune it for more of a front sound stage. If you are running a component setup in the front doors, then may you can bi-amp the front and then run the rears off the headunit. If you are running a coaxial in the front, just power all 4 speakers with the amp.

Thank you for your response. I will look at the amps to see if they have a built in (LPF). I plan to use component speakers in the front of good to great quality, the rears will be coaxial of the same brand and series. I am open to suggestions on speakers. I am currently looking at Infinity Perfect and MB Quartz. The sub and amps are nothing to write home about but I want the clarity of the system to be as good I can in a platform not designed or sound proofed for high fidelity. The bass is simply to add richness not for a lot of boom. BTW...I purchased the truck to pull my enclosed race trailer. The more I use it the more I like it and it has become my go to vehicle. Since I am spending much more time then expected in the driver's seat I want it to sound as good as the rest of the truck feels.

If you are looking at front component speakers, I would look into JL Audio. Their C5 line is really nice and smooth. If they are out of your budget, look at C2 or C3's. The Alpine Type R's are pretty good for their price.

Thanx for the direction, I will look at those. I was researching last night and the Polk MM6501 and Phoenix gold rsd65cs look good. Both are component speakers. The Polk are about 225.00 the Phoenix gold are about half that. The reviews on the MB Quart and Kappa is that they tend to be bright. I prefer warm clarity, not piercing highs. JL has always been top notch.
