Anyone else looking forward to the upcoming Dakar? Robby Gordon has a new car that should be much better through the fast rally style stages that gave the Mini team an advantage over his previous Hummer. BJ Baldwin is coming off his win at the Baja 1000 and will be competing in a new car. Nassar is back to Mini after dropping his own program less than a month ago. Should be a great rally this year.

Robbys HST interests me. I've seen the test mule testing pics, and the few leaked pics that have come out of the rear. I'm curious if the SST testing he's done all year with the series will lend to a good Dakar appearance. Time will tell.

I'm curious to see if the front engine design works in the dunes. I know he has run the SST truck at Glamis a few times so it must work fairly well. Who is going to be his co-dog this year? Is it Kellon again?

Welch is navigating again. The SST seems to do fairly well in Glamis, but we all know, Dakar is a different animal. I've also heard Robby say, he plans to build these with 1200hp, with the capability to do 200mph. Not sure about any of that, but he stated it in an interview when he was in Paris.

Yeah I saw that. Called it the Gordini. I wouldn't put it past him to try something like that.

It really sucks that we lost Curt too. I feel like he would have won Dakar at some point.

completely uninterested in the 4 wheels for Dakar. All about the bikes. Now that is a feat

I used to feel that way too, but when all the guys I followed on the bikes started switching to cars I started following them more closely.

I have a buddy on Damen Jefferies pit crew, and he's been talking up his Dakar builds for a little while now, when I see him. Wondering if BJ will be able to temper his driving style, like Robbie has had to do, in order to be successful.

And I am the complete opposite, bikes have never, ever interested me. Even when I was big big into desert racing.

I think Robby's biggest advantage over BJ is his mechanical skill, and knowing his truck inside and out.

Are moveable aero devices legal? This looks interesting...

I believe NBCSN is covering the event daily, with an update show. No live race action.

In the past, a lot of us would track the race online, and a lot of the off road boards would have text updates. Similar to the 500 and 1000. It's actually quite fun when the race is close.

NBCSN will have the highlights again this year. I'm trying to say they will air at 11:30PM EST but don't hold me to that. Race-Dezert.com always has good coverage. Be sure to follow Breauxman LIVE on FB too. He always has good "insider" coverage, especially of the bikes.

I think Iveco may have something for the KAMAZ team this year. It's too bad they regulated the trucks the way they did. I miss the really wild stuff like the DAF Turbotwins.
