I got the "Day Trade Pattern" violation, and they took my margin from me, and I can't short again. So I need to go to a new firm, or dump some cash to bring up my cash balance to 25K and get reinstated. Given these brokers are not FDIC insured, I don't feel comfortable keeping that much money in them to get a prevailing, this is why I'm looking to go to another firm and start with them.

I use Charles Schwab, not bad trading fees, plus their free checking account gets great interest.

Was with Tradestation for a long time, then I moved to Infinity Futures, and I use OpenECry for charting these days and Oanda for spot market orders.

yeah pattern daytrading is tricky. only way around it is to use prop firms but the money is not insured like it woudl be at a bank with fdic as they are companies. if you find one that has been around for a while that should give you a certain level of safety

also just keep small amoun in there and take out profits every week. that should keep you protected

In 2006 or 2007 I don't remember exactly, but I tried day trading at Cobra-trading with 32k of my college money. Parents weren't to pleased to here that, but I told them that if I lost 3,000 by years end, I'd close down the account. My goal was to make 500.00 a week. 2k a month would equal 6.25% returns a month . For day tradings, that's pretty good...to do it consistantly is even more impressive.

To my dismay, I lost the 3,000 limit. I kept my word and closed the account. Sometimes I wonder if I'd have the same fate as I did years earlier if I were to try again.

A lot of people don't really understand what it takes to make it. Like any business, it takes planning, enough capital to make realistic returns, and previous experience is always a plus.
Life ends when you stop dreaming...hope is lost when you stop believing...and love fails when you stop caring.
