Being new to the market, and still doing research, I'm watching a few stocks this week. TTWO, UNG, ANV. I'm looking for strong short-term investments. I don't see TTWO (Take-Two interactive) being a long term hold for me but I could be wrong. Strong titles, GTA V and NBA 2k14 just being released I think it'll be a good short term gain, the gap between game releases is the main reason I don't know if I'll want to hold for too long. Please correct me if i'm wrong. For the next week i'll be watching the few I mentioned, in a few days I have a rollover from a previous employer 401k hitting my portfolio, just looking for a few good moves when the time comes.
EDIT-After looking into ANV, it looks like they filed a form 8-k, and are borrowing money from The Bank of Nova Scotia. As I said I don't know much about stocks but is this a good thing?

I haven't researched ANV in particular, but over the past couple of years miners have been significantly underperforming the commodity. In the case of GLD vs GDX (Gold ETf vs Gold Miners ETF) there is around a 30% difference between the two, favoring the commodity... If this is a company specific value play and you think the market will eventually bring the price to your $7 BV then I get it, but if this is a gold is getting hammered, I want to capture the upside, I don't see this as the best way to do it...BMW 328i

Well hopefully people didn't take this thread with a grain of salt as it managed to peak over 29% in gains, and settling at just over 26% by market close. I watched this stock sore all day, very exciting. My question to those who either bought ANV earlier, or those who are familiar, would you sell or hold on the gains alone from today? I plan on holding until at least NOV 4( ANV's 3rd Quarter earnings announcement) is this smart? http://xml.10kwizard.com/filing_raw....&ipage=9165210 This news was released today, promising things to come from the company.

Yeah I'm up significantly today I averaged ANV at around $4.
... and UNG at $18.30 .. UNG still has room, but it's an ETF so I would never buy and hold it --- UNG will slowly erode over time, but natural gas will go up --- that's a fact.
So I went shopping today ... Bring on tomorrow!

LOL, great call bulls...seriously. I'm up as well, I really don't see it slowing down, or Maybe slow down until the 3rd QTR earnings Announcement. I've got to ask though, would you hold until then or do you plan on selling soon? I also watched NSPR today go up 13% today. Slowly declined to -.35% lol. Luckily I'm just watching for now and didn't buy...

Smart move, I didn't sell any yet, I am going to hold for now. I'm feeling confident the stock will stay where it's at or keep climbing..excited to watch it tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't take my focus like it did at work today lol, I just couldn't believe how much it was climbing. I'm still watching UNG but nothing significant from them yet. Any other good feelings on a stock..please just share I really feel like TTWO the owners of Rockstar games who made GTA V and a billion in 3 days will rise once they have their QTR earnings announcement but we'll see..it hasn't done much of anything

and we're off! 30 minutes into market open and ANV is starting off strong just below 3% gains. I really can't imagine it doing what it did yesterday but if it does, Ill probably go shopping lol.....
UPDATE: Welp, turns out to be a terrible day on wall street for almost all companies... Still haven't sold, feeling confident and really want to hold until ANV's earnings announcement....today might actually be the day to buy since prices are getting loww!

I'm curious as to the gold play. Here in Australia our gold miners are getting hammered too. To me gold is a worthless investment that nobody understands (including some of the worlds best analysts who reiterate this on live TV quite often). I don't believe it has any underlying fundamentals that make it attractive. Even the Fed historically is rubbish at trading gold. I don't think I've seen a reputable bullish assessment on the metal... In fact many big banks including JP Morgan are projecting $1,100 an ounce going into the end of the year/start of next.
I think the only real way to create value is to buy physical gold and hope for doomsday.
