Default French Laundry - anyone have a connection or tips for getting a resv?

Hoping for a little luck - does anyone have any connections at the French Laundry for getting reservations?

The wife and I are taking a trip out to Napa over memorial weekend for our anniversary and were hoping to make it for a meal at the infamous French Laundry for the 28th or 29th (May).

We're currently waitlisted there and I have a reservation at Ad Hoc, but it'd be awesome if anyone knows of a way to make it off the waitlist for tFL. We tried Bouchon when we were last in Vegas and loved it, so we really wanted to try Keller's best.

    Thanks

my suggestion: go to Meadowood instead, or at least make a back-up reservation there. it was just awarded 3 stars this year and the food is more exciting, and arguably better, than TFL.

there are shortcuts into TFL but that is some steep currency. one suggestion some make is to stay at a local inn & sometimes they have 1-2 reservations they can dole out. seems risky to me.

if you do happen to make it into TFL, i would highly suggest one of you going w/ the vegetable tasting menu - that is where the excitement is.

Thanks for the recommendation, we might have to give Meadowood a shot instead. TFL has that aura around it, so it's always seemed like one of those foodie must-do things. I probably dont have quite the bankroll to buy my way into a reservation, but I'll definitely check with our inn to see about reservations.

Any other must-try places around Napa?

It's shaping up to be a great weekend out there!

ubuntu is all vegetarian - and it's one of the most exciting restaurants in the country - it's not what you'd suspect at all.

madrona manor should be very solid (haven't been yet) - but it's on my short list.

farmhouse inn is great if you're in sonoma

i was just in your neck of the woods. if you feel like driving a few hours, i would give my highest possible recommendation to Town House in Chilhowie, VA - one of the top 5 restaurants in this country.

We went ahead and made reservations for Meadowood- can't argue with it getting 3 stars to match TFL.

I keep reading about Ubuntu all over, the all-veggie concept still pushes me away, even if all the meat-eater reviews love it too; it's a hard idea to get past. We kept the reservation at Ad Hoc, as I've been working through the cookbook the past few months and would like to try the real thing. Also booked a lunch at Solbar. I'll keep the other recommendations in mind too though, we booked a few as an initial plan and are hoping to narrow down and modify a list if we find some better options that fit the budget too.

Town House is roughly 6 hours from me, but we may have to make that trip in the near future. We'll be moving overseas in a few months (Budapest, Hungary), so we're trying to at least make it through our last few "must-try" restaurants in the DC area before going - we've hit most of DC's foodie joints, but still have Komi and Restaurant Eve to wrap up the area.

Lunch at Solbar should be a highly tasty experience, based on feedback I've gotten from friends whose palates I trust. Hopefully you make it off TFL's waitlist and are able to dine there. Even though it's "supposedly" slid towards the middle tier of the 3 star Michelin pack worldwide (at least according to the recent San Pellegrino World's Best list), it's still something that anyone into haute cuisine needs to experience at least once, if not several times.
