Simple Question.

What major did you get in college?
Why did you choose that?
Would you change it if you had the chance?

I did Industrial Engineering. The degree leads to mgmt consulting, wall street financial analysis and manufacturing. Pretty versatile. I am very happy with the program. I did an MBA years after that and found much of the knowledge to be similar. I like engineering but just don't see myself as a hardcore engineer.

Economics
I chose it because I love Economics...

I would not, I would however have gotten a minor in finance.

I love investments and that what I want to do with my life. Since the economy and investing go hand and hand that is perfect for me, but finance would have been a good addition.

I also can't find a job to save my life in investing so that might be food for thought on switching my major bahaha.

BS in Mechanical Engineering. ME in Systems and Information Engineering. I chose it because MechE is a versatile field and Aerospace required another computer engineering course which I did not want to take haha. I wouldn't change anything.

Biology. I love science. However after 7+ years in the lab as a researcher I was ready to do something else. Now I have been doing Biz Dev/Marketing in the Biotech industry for 9+ years. I have found that whatever you do it is best to have a multidisciplinary background. A lot of people do science but have no understanding of business. At lot of business people have no understanding of science. Finding yourself in the middle is a good place to be.

What major did you get in college? - Business Marketing
Why did you choose that? - Because I wanted to "market" businesses/products
Would you change it if you had the chance? - Yes. I would have studied a more specific type of marketing.

If I could do it all over again, I would have done something in Business Accounting, Journalism, or Web Development/Programming

Going for MechE... chose it because I love building things and wrenching on cars but I to be able to expand my capabilities and employment opportunities, plus it is so versatile I don't feel like I will ever be stuck in something.

In a few years I will get back to you on the rest :D

a. Television and Film Production.
b. I have been in it my whole life and can't be happy without a camera in my hands
c. I never finished to get a degree but I wouldn't change it.

What major did you get in college?

computer science

Why did you choose that?

i've always liked computers and been good at them; been using them since i was 9 or 10 (in 1990)

Would you change it if you had the chance?

no, i'd probably take some more classes to get a different minor in business or finance or something. i actually have a minor in business administration, although it doesn't mean much. i just had to take a few more classes to get it, and i took the more technical business classes available, like mis/omis stuff.

i'm curious what you econ majors think of this econ paper:

http://mpra.ub.uni-muenchen.de/15892/1/MPRA_paper_15892.pdf

which seems to be arguing that modern mainstream academic/professional economics relies on a model that was blind to our recent unpleasantness, which is why so many economists didn't see it coming (well after when they should have!)

how long did these econ majors take for you guys?

a lot of math prerequisites?
I'm in the middle of my second year. Pretty much I'll just take an econ course every term, doubling up I think for one or two quarters, and I'll graduate on time in 4 years.

The math prereqs weren't much at all. I came into college with AP credit for calculus AB and BC (I got a 5 and a 4 on those tests, respectively), which got me out of any math my peers have to take here at school.
