Go to Cavo in Mykonos. The best after hours club in the world. Opens at around midnight, it's right on the top of a cliff and you get to watch the sun come up in the morning over the aegean sea. quite magical.

I'd recommend more time on the islands that Athens. Athens is a rather dirty city.

This is was from the top of the Acropolis.... It's one image so it might take time to load. I had it printed and it's hanging at my work cube right now.

Athens is definitely worth a couple days. Mykonos is a bit gay, but can't be beat for high-end clubbing. Ios goes off with the younger crowd. You can't beat Ios' beaches during the Swedish midsummer holiday, if hot, drunk, topless blonds are your thing. Can't beat Santorini for the romance factor, and do not miss the active dig at Akrotiri.

If you are after the archeology factor, I would recommend Turkey for mind-blowing ruins that you can explore. And there is plenty of nightlife to be had in cities like Kusadasi or Istanbul. I stayed in a little place in Selcuk, which is a great jumping off point for partying in Kusadasi and exploring ruins like Ephesus.

I have been to Greece quite a few times, I think you'll love it!

Athens is worth at least two full days, loads of places needs to be visited...

And make sure to enjoy a caffee on top of the Lycabettus with a great view!

I would also spent a few days on Crete, visit San Maria (small canyon) and San Maria monestery; make sure to check out the old venetian harbour in Chania in the vening/night (great place for dinning) ; give the Vai beach a visit...

    the list goes on...

I do have friends in the hotel business in Crete (in Sitia) plus they do have homes for rent as well.

PM me if you want some more info...

Santorini is great! Make sure you bring your camera because the picture opportunities are amazing there. While I was there I rented a little quad that didn't go very fast but it was tons of fun either way. I'd suggest renting one and going for a tour/ getting lost on the island. They aren't expensive and you get them all day long. As far as I know there are no rules for them because I was all over the road and no one said anything. I didn't even get one local giving me the evil eye. We were practically drinking while driving them down the roads.

I also visited Ios which is another island in greece and it was more of a party island. The bars never really closed and everyone drank every night all night. If you want to get drunk with a bunch of australians in their mid to high twenties this would be the place to go haha. Personally I had the time of my life there but it would definitely be different if you are with your wife. Thats about all the advice I can think of right now. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
He is spot on about Mykonos...nothing against them, but its gets old quick.

Went there a few years back, stayed in Athens mainly but had a couple day trips out to local islands.

View from our hotel...the St George Lycabettus.

Is Nafpaktos still a cool area in Greece?

Occasionally you can get stuck on an island because the winds are too high to sail and in Greece you should always leave room for the unexpected.
I definitely second this, I was stuck on Paros for 5 days...Not necessarily a bad thing, but it cut into my time on the other islands.
