Mom forwarded me this one:

Rover's revenge: Furious driver dumps his £50,000 Range Rover outside showroom... emblazoned with a list of its 'faults' | Mail Online

It is not the best advertisement to have outside your car dealership.

This Range Rover Sport HSE is convincingly decorated like a ‘manager’s special offer’, but it promotes a set of features that are far from appealing.

The owner has daubed it with a catalogue of the faults it allegedly suffered after he bought it for £50,000 at Lookers Land Rover showroom in Colchester, Essex.

When the dealership failed to deal with his complaints to his satisfaction, he parked the negative advertising outside.

As the vehicle is on a public road, the showroom has no power to move it. Staff refused to reveal the owner’s identity.

Large yellow vinyl letters along one side of the car read: ‘If you want trouble free motoring do not buy one of these!!!’

On the side and rear windows it lists: ‘Problems with . . . 6 front ball joints, 4 front arm bushes, new seat base, front and rear n/s [nearside] struts, full n/s suspension unit, anti-roll bar bushes, air con.’

A passer-by said: ‘It looks really realistic until you actually read what the words say. Then it’s obvious someone has put it there to have a dig at the dealership. It’s a brilliant idea.’

Mark Foster of Jaguar Land Rover said: ‘Land Rover operates a comprehensive warranty programme and a strong goodwill policy.

'All necessary repairs to this vehicle over 42,000 miles have been carried out under warranty.

'However, we are disappointed this customer’s experience has been unfortunate and as such we have made a goodwill offer towards helping him into a new vehicle.’

I have to admit though RR are one of the most comfortable cars I've ever sat in...

i drove in a brand new RR a couple weeks back and indeed it's comfortable, but when I read article after article about maintenance issues, I wonder why people go for the aesthetic over the practical. Additionally, when Forbes magazines nails your car as a bad purchase, I'd take note..

agreed I prefer a cayenne over a RR

We are in the same position.. RR Supercharged.. So shitty.....

Only downside is that its hard to find a luxury SUV in that size now a days. Cayanne is too small for our needs.

RFLMFAO...that is too funny...almost as funny as the other day when we took ours back to Land Rover (still under warranty) stating the rear sun/moon roof stopped working...the Custom Service Statement read something like this when we picked it up: 38930 Customer states rear sunroofs are inoperable.... Customer installed Roof Rack blocking operation (electric eye for sunroof motor)… Guess they are like exotics in that way…You have to learn their quirks and how to operate/drive them to be happy with them…Land Rover once advertised that over 89% of all their vehicles ever built are still in use. In fact, Land Rover drivers sometimes refer to other makes of 4x4 as "disposables"….You also have to develop a sense of humer whith Jeremy Clarkson bashing us every week on Top Gear!!! LOL!

Sure they are, you have to replace every part on the damn thing so frequently that any one part never has to many miles on it! I bought one for my GF a few cars ago. Turn it in under the lemon law after three major breakdowns in four months! The only thing falling faster then the customer confidence is the resale!

i just traded my POS 2006 sport supercharged in for a CL63. the rover was bought new and was great for 40k miles. AT 40k my tranny went and they wouldnt do shit. my power started cutting out on the frwy (went from 75 mph to 15 mph in the fast lane) along with so many more problems. the service guy at RR even told me to dump the thing as my problems were just beginning. first and LAST range rover for me

LOL...they are not for everyone...they have to maintained and you have to know your way around under the hood...almost all the Rover aficionados that I know keep handheld OBD's with them..LOL! We even have one friend who has an entire business just teaching new owners about them and how to drive them (Offroving.com)...It is much like the first time any of us jumped into an exotic only to be confronted with paddle shift on the column...takes a little effort but well worth it!

That's a horrible comparison.

Keep in mind that 95% of people who buy these cars use them as daily drivers. When a car needs 9-10 components replaced before 40k its a problem.. And in most cases the Owner/Driver has no control over the failing items.

A Paddle shifter requires a 5 minute learning curve.

Sooo...how many have you owned?
We have used the Rovers as daily drivers AND weekend toys for many years with no major issues...The worst that happens to my XK is that the battery dies if it sits for more than a couple of days...on the other hand I briefly strayed from the Brits with a BMW 735i while I was in law school and it stranded me everywhere! My point about the exotics (can be temperamental also) is that if you LOVE the vehicle and love the lifestyle it is worth the effort...Looking forward to what TaTa has in store for us! BTW if it is under 40K miles it would all be under waranty and they give you free rental cars... so who cares???

I have one in the garage Currently, a 08 RR Supercharged. 32k on the ODO and so far things replaced under warranty:

Radiator (Cracked @19k)
Transfer Case @ 29k
Steering wheel adjustment motor @ 9k

Not to mention all the non motorized things that keep breaking (i.e. visor clips/door handle grommets/ cup holders)

BTW if it is under 40K miles it would all be under warranty and they give you free rental cars... so who cares???
I care and so does almost every other consumer out there. I hate having to drop the car off at the dealership and getting a rental because it takes time out of my already busy schedule for an unnecessary trip. But to each is his own.

I wouldn't mind having a D90 in the garage as a weekend car though.

You can't buy a british car thinking it'll be problem free. It's not german or japanese....

Except Lotus Elises because they have a toyota engine in them
