Well I finally bought a house (had one built). I need to get 2 garage door openers as I opted not to pay the builder $1500 to install them. I'm hoping to find a reputable installer to do it for less. Either way, does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for a belt drive unit as the master is above the garage. I know Chamberlain and Liftmaster are two of the most common options out there. Anything I should consider? Anything to look for?
We just installed two Sommer openers at our house. Theyre sweet- suuuuper quiet (it has a chain, but it doesnt move) and you can mount the 'control unit' away from the track giving you more clearance if needed. Lifetime warranty on the whole unit as well. Check them out.
They're great quality, compact, quiet, have tons of accessories (including accessibility via phone app), and the ability to keep the middle of the garage ceiling clear in case you want to add a lift at some point.
Thanks for the info guys. I looked into Sommer and the product looks interesting. they still haven't contacted me about a dealer though. I've never seen one of the wall mounted Liftmaster units in person. Those seem intersting enough... I'll check with my local dealer and see what they say.
Go with that 8500 Liftmaster, you don't have to worry about clearance of the center chain drive and you can get an electric deadbolt and APP access via smartphone.
