When I say the original lenses, I mean the photochromatic ones. To my knowledge, they aren't made anymore and cannot be reproduced due to all of the nasty byproducts the creation process left behind.
Unfortunately, I am not the original purchaser, they were my fathers, and we cannot find the papers. I will have to go to Cartier and ask about the serial number and see if they can look it up. Although we have the same name, I was not alive in the early 80's so I don't know if they will do any repairs or service them for free...

The reasons I am not currently using the original lenses - first, they are almost clear in low light, and look cheesy unless you are in full sunlight for a long period of time. Second, the frame of the glasses is slightly bent and distorted- the lenses can fall out. As the original lenses are glass, if this happens, they will break and as far as I know, are irreplaceable unless you find a used pair.

I am looking for a shop that can reset the frames that someone has had an actual experience with (nervous to send these to an online company with no proof of reputation) and an independent company that can make high quality lens replacements (the Cartier options were pretty lame) If anyone knows of such a place, let me know!

Is there a point to keeping the original lenses perfect if you are never going to use them? I've got a pair, although slightly different from yours, and wear them all the time... If the lenses were to scratch, either fix them, replace them, or get new glasses....

    They are great glasses indeed,
Do you never intend on using the original lenses? Like Vanity said try the Cartier boutique they may even be able to get you another pair of original lenses.

Try your Cartier boutique. Most high-end places take care of their customers and fix small things/replacements for free, for life. At least that's been my experience.

    Cartier Aviators - Need help!

Does anyone have these? See below pic

I have to say, these are my favorite pair of sunglasses I have ever owned. They even came with a gold Cartier screwdriver to change out the lenses, and to remove the screws if wanted- there was a limited edition where the screws were actually replaced with diamonds I believe. Anyhow, the replacement lenses I have as pictured are crap. They are plastic and in terrible condition. I have the original lenses that show the Cartier symbol when fogged and will turn from clean to gold in the sunlight, but they are priceless and I don't want to risk scratching them or breaking them... can someone recommend a good place that I can order high quality replacement lenses from online?
