Having an original work of art displayed in your contemporary home means having a great story to tell your friends and family when they come over for a tour of your new place. For the new owner of this fascinating Picasso painting, their story will no doubt have to mention its astronomical price tag
Just a few weeks ago, Pablo Picasso’s Femme Assise (painted in 1909) was up for auction at Sotheby’s London and sold for a jaw-dropping $63.7 million—$20 million more than its estimated worth! This particular work was reportedly inspired by his lover and frequent model Fernande Olivier. This work, part of a series, would eventually be known as the series that helped propel him towards the “cubism” painting style. The painting has been in the possession of a private collector since 1973, when Sotheby’s first sold the painting for about $500,000. Considering how much it sold for today, it was definitely worth the investment!
