Would You Rather: Porsche 911 by Singer OR Eagle Low Drag GT?

Last week’s battle of two German sports sedans saw the stalwart BMW M3 snatch victory from the upstart Mercedes-AMG 63. This week, however, we’re going a bit old school.

Sort of…

A small company in Los Angeles called Singer has recently made quite a name for itself taking old Porsche 911s and turning them into immaculately prepared, wildly expensive reimaginings. England’s Eagle, meanwhile, has been quietly applying a similar formula to Jaguar E-Types. Don’t think of either as classics, but rather brand new sports cars with the spirit and excitement of the cars that inspired them.

Now it’s time to figure out which of these reborn beauties you should put in your garage.


LOOKS: Like AC/DC, one reason the 911 has been so successful is that it hasn’t changed much over the last several decades. Singer rightly didn’t mess with perfection to much, but closer inspection reveals some truly gobsmacking details.

LOOKS: Jaguar built countless E-Types but only one Low Drag racing variant, which is a shame, because it’s absolutely gorgeous. The Eagle Low Drag GT recreates the original in stunning polished aluminum.

LOOKS: The 911’s shape is iconic, but the Low Drag is the sexiest version of the sexiest car ever built.

ENGINE: Like any self-respecting 911, the Singer is powered by a range of flat sixes fettled by the engine wizards at Cosworth. The recently added 4.0-liter produces a healthy 390-hp.

ENGINE: The Low Drag GT is also powered by a six cylinder, but in this case, it’s a 4.7-liter straight six producing 345-hp.

ENGINE: Thanks to low curb weights, both cars will go like stink despite their deceptively low power figures, but the Singer’s 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds is right par with most of today’s faster cars.

INTERIOR: The Singer maintains the overall feel of a 911, but is lightyears ahead in terms of fit, finish and opulence. The basket-weave leather surfaces are particularly cool and unique to Singer.

INTERIOR: The Low Drag GT’s interior contains plenty of nods to the Jaguar race car that inspired it, but is also wrapped in swathes of fine leather.

INTERIOR: We wouldn’t complain about spending time in either car, and the prices they command mean you can probably configure them in just about any way imaginable. But, nothing feels as special as Singer’s interiors.

THE DETAILS: Don’t look for any plastic bits on the Singer’s exterior because you won’t find any. The brightwork, including the headlight surrounds, door frames and vents are nickel plated – a Singer signature.

THE DETAILS: The Eagle Low Drag GT seamlessly incorporates modern switches, lights and other equipment that in no way detracts from its stunning proportions.

THE DETAILS: Arguably, both of these cars are all about the details, which is reflected in their price tags (about $1 million for the Eagle Low Drag GT and between $300,000 and $500,000 for the Singer), but Singer has set new standards for this small but wildly expensive segment.

Both cars offer stunning classic looks, combined with the performance of a modern car, but Singer takes this battle three to one.
