It looks like the hype surrounding the absurd power of the Devel Sixteen hypercar is real.
The Dubai-based supercar’s creators have been touting their ludicrous power figures for years, claiming benchmarks like 5,000 horsepower, a 0-60 time of less than two seconds, and a top speed of over 345 miles per hour for their creation. Those are insane numbers, even for the best hypercars.
It turns out one of those figures is accurate.
Devel has posted video on its YouTube page that shows the engine getting dynoed. The 12.3-liter V-16 engine – equipped with four massive 81-millimeter turbochargers – is the definition of a monster. See the video below:
After it’s all said and done, we’re left with the following figures for the Devel:
• 4,515 horsepower at 6,900 rpm and pushing 36 psi of boost.
• 3,519 lb-ft of torque at 6,600 rpm and 36 psi of boost.
• 3,006 horsepower at 6,900 rpm when dropped to 20 psi of boost and running pump gas.
• 2,407 lb-ft of torque at the lower settings.
The video shows the engine ‘only’ reaching 4,515hp, only because the engine dyno couldn’t handle it. They claim there was more to give, exceeding the 5,000hp plateau.
While the 5,000hp seems to be true, that doesn’t yet mean the car can hit its quoted 0-60 times, or top speed number. Until the Devel’s creators release another teaser on the car’s progress, we can at least marvel at the power and sound of 5,000 stampeding horses.
