The performance specifications for the new 2017 Ford GT supercar have finally been confirmed after what seems like ages of being left in the dark.
The twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 found in the Ford GT produces an SAE-certified 647 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque, with 90 percent of peak torque available from 3,500 rpm. Linked to a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch automatic transmission, the American supercar will top out at 216 mph, certifying it as the fastest production Ford ever.
Additionally, the GT’s dry weight has been verified at 3,054 lbs, making it heavier than the McLaren 675 LT and Ferrari 488 GTB, which tip the scales at 2,927 lbs and 3,020 lbs dry, respectively. Ford places its power-to-weight ratio at 4.72 lbs/horsepower.
Thanks to its active aerodynamics and suspension systems, the rear-wheel-drive Ford GT lapped the 3.13-mile circuit at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario faster than the 675LT and the naturally aspirated Ferrari 458 Speciale. The GT’s quickest lap was a 2:09.8, placing it a full second ahead of the McLaren’s best lap of 2:10.8. The Ferrari was another two seconds behind with a fastest lap of 2:12.9.
“The Ford GT is all about performance,” Ford executive vice president Raj Nair said in a statement. “We achieved considerable weight savings with the carbon fiber architecture. We then reinvested some of that savings into where it counts most – performance, specifically, the active dynamics. The result is an even faster car.”
We’re still waiting on an official zero-to-60-mph, zero-to-100-mph, and quarter-mile acceleration times for the GT from Ford, but for now, you can view the vehicle’s official spec sheet at this link. Ford doesn’t typically release acceleration times for its cars, but it hasn’t had a car like the GT in its roster for a while, and people are undoubtedly dying to know. Fingers are crossed for a Nurburgring lap time as well.
One more random specification Ford also released was the GT’s cargo capacity, which rings in at a whopping 0.4 cubic feet!
