What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a performance-focused brand like AMG than to build a new race car.
That is precisely what Mercedes-Benz did, releasing the new AMG GT3 Edition 50 track special of which just five examples will be built. Five years ago, Mercedes did the exact same thing with the SLS AMG GT Edition 45, celebrating 45 years of performance heritage.
To set this new GT3 race car apart, it gets a unique livery, “50 YEARS AMG” logos, an interior inscription that reads “50 years of driving performance,” and a special badge denoting which car out of five each unit is. For performance, the race car sports a 6.2-liter V8 just like the standard GT3, but the difference is, the Edition 50 has free intake and exhaust systems, allowing it to breathe freely and avoid the restrictor plates normally used on these cars.
Those five lucky buyers to get on of these cars will have to take delivery at AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany, where they will also receive an IWC watch built specially for the car. Performance driving classes are also available with the purchase of a GT3.
