Lamborghini is rumored to be working on a new, limited-run hybrid hypercar with well over 800 horsepower on tap.
A user on AutoGuide.com’s McLaren forum, McLaren Life, recently opened up a thread discussing the alleged hybrid hypercar. According to the user, the mystery vehicle was shown to prospective customers during a special event in Italy a few weeks ago. An Instagram user posted a photo of the entry pass to the event on June 23rd, which said “The Power to Shape the Future” on it along with the words “Private Preview” and “Sant’agata Bologenese, Italy.”
Rumors indicate Lamborghini’s first hybrid will feature a 789 hp version of its 6.5-liter V12 engine along with a 49 hp electric motor for a total system output of 838 hp. Prices will allegedly sit at around $2.5 million while production will be limited to 63 units – a potential reference to the start of production of the first-ever Lamborghini road car in 1963. Production of the hybrid is said to start by the end of 2018, with deliveries commencing in late 2019.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the rumored Lamborghini hybrid hypercar, which is referred to internally as ‘LB48H’. An Autoblog report published in June referenced the secret unveiling event in Italy and indicated the mystery vehicle would pull inspiration from the Terzo Millenio concept. The report also referred to an Instagram post made at that time by the manager of Lamborghini’s Lisboa, Portugal dealership that featured the hashtags “#masterpiece” and “#lb48h.” When approached for comment on the curious hashtags, Costa deleted them from the post, making them that much more suspicious.
We’ll have full details on the hybrid Lamborghini as soon as they become available, so stay tuned for more information.
