The next-generation  Audi  A6 Avant, along with the high-performance RS6 Avant, may be sold in the United States.

According to CarBuzz, Audi will bring both the A6 Avant and the RS6 Avant to North America before 2020.

It’s not clear why Audi has finally decided to offer the wagon variant of the A6 and RS6 in the United States, but needless to say, just about every North American Audi fan will be happy with this turn of events.

The new RS6 Avant will allegedly arrive in the United States alongside the next-generation RS7 in 2020. These spacious performance cars are expected to share a powertrain, which will likely consist of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged  V8  and an eight-speed automatic  transmission .

The standard A6 Avant for Europe debuted last year and is offered with the same 2.0-liter  diesel , 3.0-liter diesel, and 3.0-liter V6 engines as the standard A6 for Europe. If it does indeed arrive in North America, expect the A6’s 3.0-liter mild hybrid V6 to be the only available engine.

If  Audi  does go ahead with plans to sell the A6 and RS6 Avant in the United States, each will only have one true competitor in the way of the  Mercedes-Benz  E-Class wagon and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

We’ll have all the details on the US-spec Audi A6 Avant, along with the next-generation Audi RS6 Avant, as soon as they become available.
