Would You Rather: Aston Martin DB11 or Bentley Continental GT Speed?

Our last Would You Rather saw the McLaren 570GT squeak by the Audi R8 in a square off of entry-level, mid-engine supercars. The close margin of victory was reflected on our Facebook page where you, our readers, were pretty much split down the middle.

If you’re an Aston Martin fan, then you’ve been waiting for one of this week’s contestants for a very long time. The DB11 is Aston’s all new V12-powered grand tourer, which takes over for the stalwart DB9. And this week, we’re pitting it against another British (and German) bruiser, the Bentley Continental GT Speed.

LOOKS: The DB11 combines traditional Aston design queues with futuristic looks. The C-pillar looks a little odd from some angles, but overall, it’s a fantastic looking thing.

LOOKS: The Bentley Continental GT has been with us for some time now, but that’s done little to diminish its elegant, yet brutish looks. The GT Speed only adds to the aggression.

LOOKS: Tough call, but ultimately we have to give it to the Aston.

Aston Martin DB11: 1

Bentley Continental GT Speed: 0

PERFORMANCE: An all-new 5.2-liter V12 produces 600 horsepower and launches the DB11 from 0-60 in just 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 200 mph. The new bonded aluminum chassis and clever aerodynamics should translate to outstanding all-around performance.

14

PERFORMANCE: Bentley’s oddball twin-turbo W12 produces 626 horsepower in the Continental GT speed, which combined with all-wheel-drive, propels it to 60 mph in less than 3.4 seconds and on to 206 mph. But at over 5,000 pounds, it is a bit of a porker.

Continental GT Speed

PERFORMANCE: The Bentley slays at the drag strip, but the Aston is likely to be the better all-rounder.

Bentley Continental GT Speed: 0

INTERIOR: The DB11’s interior is somehow simultaneously uncluttered and filled with interesting details, including the y-pattern, studded seats and tidy instrument cluster.

03

INTERIOR: Despite its sporting pretenses, the Speed GT is every bit as opulent as any car in the Bentley range. That means swathes of leather, tactile surfaces and high-end switch gear.

Continental GT Speed-5

INTERIOR: Even after 13 years (and admittedly several updates) the Continental GT is still a fantastic place to crush miles, but it can’t match the Aston’s bang-up-to-date cockpit.

Bentley Continental GT Speed: 0

PRESENCE: Like all good modern Aston’s, the DB11 is both menacing and elegant, and the dramatic roof strakes really add to the sense of occasion.

09

PRESENCE: The Speed GT’s aesthetics have more in common with the streamlined trains of the 1930s instead of most modern sports cars, which makes it really cool.

Continental GT Speed-2

PRESENCE: Call it the rear-view-mirror test. We would be far more likely to make way for the Bentley.

The Bentley scratches a point back, but it’s not enough. The latest from Aston takes this one.
