Mercedes-AMG GT R Violates the Green Hell

It’s not an official time set by Mercedes-AMG, but by independent magazine sport auto.

Ever since the Mercedes-AMG GT R made its debut, the German automaker has been calling it the “Beast of the Green Hell,” saying that it was developed on the world famous Nurburgring. Strangely enough, the automaker itself never revealed a lap time but now sport auto has conducted its own. The publication stopped the clock at 7:10.9, making the AMG GT R the fastest road-going sports car ever tested by the motoring magazine.

But how does it stack up against the competition? Well, the GT R certainly holds its own, but it’s not the fastest road-going car to ever lap the Nurburgring. In fact, its bested by the Nissan GT-R NISMO, Lamborghini Aventador SV and Porsche 918 Spyder to name a few.

Still, with a time of 7:10.9, the German automaker’s sports car is is faster than many other sports cars around the track including the Lexus LFA Nurburgring, Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR and Ferrari 488 GTB.
