One underlying thing I'm interested to see how it develops throughout the season, is the 2014 car. All major teams have given a percentage of their development teams to dedicate to development of the new car. Wondering how that will affect continuing development of the present cars through the season.

Good question, it may go back to 2009. The top teams were fighting for 2008 so hard, that 2009 came and the Ferrari/McLaren were shit most of the year.

I think Kimi won in Spa du to the Kers he had, other wise the Force India/Sutil might have won it. That was Ferraris only victory.. McLaren did slightly better but still slotted in behind Red Bull and Brawn.

I think teams like Redbull/Mc/Ferrari and possibly lotus will wait until the last race is over if it comes down to it. There is so much money to be had for sticking in the fight that they can't ignore the present.

Tire wear this year will be even more important.. This isnt looking good.

Paul Hembery has some concerns about the Jerez track surface, saying it is "rather abrasive" resulting in shredded and stripped tyres.

The Formula One teams have been in action at the Spanish track since Tuesday, evaluating not only their new cars but also their new Pirelli tyres.

However, Hembery fears the track's surface, which has caused the stripping of tyres, has also not allowed for a true evaluation of the rubber.

"The track is rather abrasive - and is substantially worse than last year," the Pirelli motorsport director told Autosport.

"We have seen quite a lot of shredding of tyres, and there seems to be a lack of bitumen in the track, so we are looking at a very open surface.

"It has meant that what was historically an interesting track from our point of view for doing tyre compound work has proven to be probably dominated by that effect, so we have not seen the differences between the compounds that we would have liked.

"We have still seen peak performances of half a second between different levels, and the hard tyre has been working quite well considering those conditions to get through their work, but there has been this stripping action across the top of the tyres."

Pressed as to whether that meant the teams were not able to get in any 'useful tyre work', Hembery said: "Certainly for tyre evaluations, yes. It is a shame because the weather conditions are not too bad.

"You struggle to get anywhere above 20 degrees in Europe in February, so it is slightly disappointing from that point of view.

"But it is quite a big evolution from last year; it is so far away from anything else you are going to see in terms of macro."

First round of pre-season testing over.

    Cliffs:

    Massa says Ferrari is great
    Merc catches fire
    RoGro manages not to crash
    Bulls remain quiet
    Hamilton wrecks a Benz
Kimi still wears over sized hats/glasses
    Ferrari catches fire

    Minor cliffs:
Force India still without 2 drivers
    Sauber looks promising
    Caterham green looks cool
    McLaren misses Hamilton

Redbull has kept a really low profile at Jerez, at least from a media perspective.

De La Rosa also said, Ferraris simulator is in the Stone Age compared to Mclarens. I'm surprised Maranello is that far behind.

Okay still love Mclaren but now that LH, is driving for the grey arrows. I have to pay more attention to them lol. Looks like this year, everypoint from Ferrari, Mclaren and Red Bull will be even more vital than last season.

Sauber, so far seems to have the best look in terms of the design of their Car, the question is can Hulkenberg, turn thing around?

Have you been paying attention to their 2014 car? Ferrari, looks to dominate again, they almost made it last year!

2014 or did you mean 2013? I think they were impressive at Jerez, but I don't think anyone has shown their cards yet. A lot of sand bagging going on during testing. I'm interested to hear what Alonso will have to say about the car at Catalunya.

Heard an outlandish rumor, that Narain Karthikeyan might be taking seat 2 at Force India. Since TaTa has upped their sponsor package with him, he's obviously becoming more of a viable option for teams that need some cash infusion. I personally think that is a huge waste of a quality seat.

    QFT. I completely agree.

Glad as F1 fans, we all agree on this!

Barcelona is coming up starting with the first days of testing there on the 20th.

We really wont know much until Australia Qualifying however, it will be interesting to see the changes to the cars from Jerez.

Just read that kobayashi will be testing for the GTE pro champ 458 team in a week or so.

Again, I think he'll be back In 14. I think there is a lot of young, inexperienced talent this year, and I don't see them all working out. And with 8mil pounds behind him, I don't think we've seen the last of the crazy Kamui.
