Geneva motor show: NLV Quant by Koenigsegg
Leave it to Koenigsegg to help bring a high-performance all-electric car to market. The Swedish supercar manufacturer--known for creating green E85-burning versions of its 1,018-hp CCX--is partnering with NLV Solar AG to produce the Quant.
Built around NLV’s proprietary FAES battery system, the four-passenger Quant features large gullwing doors on each side for easy passenger ingress and egress. The battery pack is placed in the low center of the Quant’s carbon-fiber monotube chassis for the lowest possible center of gravity and to allow for a full trunk in the rear.
Two AC induction motors turn the rear wheels and feature an output of 512 hp and 527 lb-ft of torque. Koenigsegg projects the Quant hitting 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and having a top speed of 171 mph.
A fully charged battery takes just 20 minutes and is claimed to give the Quant a 310-mile driving range. To extend range potential, a clear photovoltaic coating on the car’s exterior helps recharge the battery with solar power, and a four-wheel brake regeneration system is also fitted.
Koenigsegg expects the Quant to weigh in at just 3,924 pounds, thanks to the aforementioned carbon-fiber chassis and the use of aluminum and carbon-fiber body panels.
The Geneva show car is not a running model, but Koenigsegg and NLV are hard at work assembling running prototypes.
