The Difference between Fashion and Style
Everyone seems to get so caught up on brand names. I know you guys and girls are probably sick of me saying this by now but I read more and more posts everyday where people are asking about a brand. It's not about the brand, its about the fit and finish. You can chase after labels all day but if they don't fit you well then you'll look like someone that overpaid on some ill-fitting clothes.
Fashion, or, being fashionable is when you are always up on the latest greatest. It's about the label and the trend. Dolce is not hot this year so you switch to F&M. F&M is not hot this year so you switch to Upright Society. You've always got the latest greatest. You might look like a fool, but it's the latest greatest. This is someone that's fashionable. There's nothing wrong with it aside from it being very costly to maintain and the investment is not a good one since you won't keep anything for more than a season. Take a walk down Chelsea or the flat iron district and you'll see throngs of women and now men wearing Hammer pants. This looks absolutely ridiculous. But, why are they doing it? They're doing it because it's fashionable. it looks absolutely foolish and tacky, but it's fashionable. It's what's in currently.
Now on the other hand you have style. To be stylish is what the aim is. Someone that has style has a personalized flare or signature that makes them them. Style is ageless. Style does not go out of fashion after a season. Style is timeless. You can wear a t-shirt and ripped jeans and if your stylish it will come off well. Developing your personal style takes time and doesn't happen overnight. it comes from a lot of trial and error and experimentation. You might end up mixing a few fashionable pieces with a more traditional piece and that's your style. whatever it is, make it your own. Make it your signature.
Fashions come and go but style is timeless. Remember that and stop worrying about what everyone else thinks about a certain brand.
