Default Tommy Hilfiger's 11 Rules for Summer Style

    RULE 1: Never mix patterns.
You don't want to wear stripes with plaid, or checks with a print. So if you're wearing patchwork madras shorts, you want to wear them with something solid and not too bright.

    RULE 2: Know your limits.
If you're wearing a pair of multicolored boat shoes, that should be the only pattern going on. That should be the eye-catching element to the outfit.

    RULE 3: Comfort conquers.
Things like madras shorts are not only cool but also really comfortable. They're preppy, but with an edge.

    RULE 4: Lose the socks.
From May to September, if you're wearing shorts...no socks. If you're wearing boat shoes...no socks.

    RULE 5: Slim is in.
Whether it's a polo shirt, shorts, or pants, slim cuts are much more appealing. You don't want anything too oversize or baggy, but you also don't want it so tight that it's restricting.

    RULE 6: Old is new.
Try to keep things weathered and comfortable. Anything too crisp and new looks, well, too crisp and new. If you have a bright bottom, wear a faded top.

    RULE 7: Remember, it's sportswear.
All this stuff originally served an actual function. These clothes came from cricket, rowing, rugby, boating.

    RULE 8: Four simple words.
I'd define American summer style as relaxed, cool, easy, and fun.

    RULE 9: Oxford rules.
A washed, solid, untucked Oxford shirt goes great with anything from grass-green chinos to a pair of white jeans.

    RULE 10: Preppy lives.
It's a distinct style, but it takes twists and turns. Right now slim silhouettes are in, but in a few years it may loosen up. Faded and washed is in, but next year it could be crisp and new.

RULE 11: When all else fails...
    Be like JFK!

Anybody else have their own rules or tips for summer fashion?

Play around with pastels (colors) and different fabrics/materials like linen, cotton, madras, seer sucker, etc...

Don't be afraid to look like an adult, Summertime is all about fun but lose the sneakers and get some deck shoes or lighter/fun dress shoes. Lose the flip flops and get some sandals (gladiator style).

Stick out by wearing a summer hat, don't be afraid to experiment.

This is more of a general rule but your shoes and belt should generally match (not exactly the same color, but about the same, just different enough to stand out).

Don't be afraid to wear a jacket during the Summer, stay with some light blazers like cotton or linen.

Accessorize! colored: bowties, suspenders (hung on shoulders or let down), watches with emphasis on playful straps, sunglasses, etc...

Final thought: spring/summer is the perfect time to experiment with your wild side, it is my favorite dressing season.

IDK about white jeans. There's just something that doesn't appeal to me about a man in white jeans. I feel like no matter the fit, moose knuckle will be prevalent.

Do tell? I don't wear white pants, so I'm not sure I've heard.

I'm sure that even gay people think that white pants are gay.

have anything to do with camel toe? IDK exactly what to google, women and white pants just returned a lot of places to buy them.

Red pants don't do much for a female either, if not the right size, see Kardashian Kamel...

The larger of the Kardashians in a smaller Kardashian's pants, it seems. Or the Snooki Monster.

There is nothing wrong with what she is wearing, it looks good in my opinion. I'm not fond of her size but not gonna hate on it either. Some guys like em curvy, I don't.

I thought this thread was about summer style?
