Lenovo - I only buy lenovo laptops, and nothing even comes close to them in terms of build quality for me. We have 3 in my family, and they're all built like tanks.

My Thinkpad is 3.5 years old and it still looks brand new, even after bring dropped and lugged around everywhere. Our others are 2 and 1-years old and still perform great as well. They're all part of the thinkpad series though, which is their business line, so theyre a bit tougher. If anything, I'll always buy a business level laptop from now on over the consumer levels because build quality is so much better, regardless of brand. More durable hinges, case, screen, keyboard (Lenovo keyboards are second to none).

So for me - Lenovo all the way if I were buying again today.

^ +1, I've had my Thinkpad T400 for about 3 years now and it runs so well.

I have an Alienware with an i7, the i7 is very spiffy indeed. Since Alienware isn't your cup of tea I'd go for an Asus. They're the best bang for the buck and are really nice machines.
