It's a comprehensive remodel. Other than leaving 3 walls standing, we are basically building a new house.

Are you just looking for gizmos and gadgets or do you need full renovation plans?

I have plans. I have permits. We are starting demo on Monday. I'm just looking for suggestions on what I should put in the house. What is the new "must have" stuff?

How about a Crestron home automation system? They are pretty cool... Endless possibilities with it, aside from the obvious home theater you can run with it.

Wine cellar as mentioned above is always cool.

Being on this forum I assume you're into cars.... I wish I had installed radiant heat in my garage, and a lift. But I guess it's just a summer beach house for you so you're probably not working on a car there.

Do you have a pool? If so I'm hooked up with the US distributor for a German made rigid slatted pool cover. 70-80% energy efficiency, lowers your heating costs big time, and they are safety covers as well. I've seen adults walk across them. Many of the high end homes in The Hamptons are beginning to use this system now. It's an extremely high end cover.

How about solar panels? They are nice, give you "free" power when you're using the house, and sell it back to the grid when you are not. LIPA is even paying for half of the costs right now.

The possibilities are endless.... we've installed so many different "luxury" items for people. It really depends on what you like, and there's definitely a cool gizmo, or must have for it.

Basketball courts, Tennis courts, Putting greens..... outdoor fireplaces (one of my favorite).

I was thinking about solar panels or a windmill. My neighbor spoke with a solar guy who said it wasn't a good idea because we have a lot of seagulls dropping clams, scallops and conchs. I have shell pieces on every hard surface around my house. He said the solar panels wouldn't sustain the abuse. Still considering a windmill, since I get a constant bay breeze.

Outdoor fireplace is definitely on my list.

We're right on the bay, so no pool. I'll look into the crestron system.

    Thanks.

I'm not positive about this.... But from what I've been learning talking to people wind power is not the right choice on Long Island. I know you get some breezes off the bay, but we really don't get enough wind to make any power. You need long periods of high sustained winds in order to get them to be efficient. A few windy days here and there doesn't really do anything to you.

Crestron systems are really really cool. But make sure you higher a very good company. There's a ton of small A/V companies that offer the system and many of them really don't know how to program it 100% right. If it's not programmed just right it will cause tons of headaches for the owner. When it's done right though, it's very cool and easy to use. It is expensive though. But as most things you get what you pay for.
